hello

the hdhomerun website says the connect was discontinued and replaced by the connect duo and connect quadro

I cant tell if the extend is discontinued as well

I only see comparisons between the original connect and the extend on the website but not the new ones

the connect duo and extend are both 99.99 on amazon

which one should I get?

Depends on your need. The Extend will transcode on the fly if you need that capability.

How do I know if I need transcoding on the fly?

I think if you are asking about it you probably don't need it. But - If you are using CATV and most of your channels are mpeg2 it might be a consideration for you, if you transcode (from mpeg2 to mp4) them as they are being recorded you'll save space on your drive, if you keep the recordings long term you won't have to then convert them to save space, and this is being done by the tuner and therefore doesn't use any system resources.

I personally use the connects.

Does that help?
