Emby fails miserably on downloading metadata for TV Show

So, I've obtained second season (some call it second part of season 1) of `Chilling Adventures of Sabrina`. When I am trying to download metadata for it (actors, ep descriptions and so on) it fails to do so because Emby thinks its season 3 despite me clearly stating it is season 2.

You might ask how do I know it? I know it because I manually set it to season 2, however it is automatically fetches wrong release date. Second season came out in 2019 but it insists it came 24 January 2020. I tried correcting `release date` and `year` fields manually both for season as the whole and specific episode, it is still fails to download metadata (such as episode description, name, actors). This is what I see when I replace metadata of the season: correctly deduced season number and incorrectly deduced release date; and this is what I get when looking at metadata of an episode: correctly deduced season/episode number and episode name from the future, episode also has same release date as the season so I didn't include it.

Quite the easiest way to deal with this kind of problem is to rename the episodes so that TVDB recognises them.

Curiously TVDB has two divisions for this show, "Seasons", in which the second season starts this month, and "Parts" which describes this month's episodes as being "Season 3, part 3".  Sure, it's confusing, but if you name the files to match the first (i.e. all past episodes in season 1) instead of the second they will be identified correctly.

Depending on your Emby settings, you may also be able to divide the episodes into directories named for the seasons you want to call them, and have them seen as separate (though with TVDB's episode numbers) - I've done that with some shows which have a similar confusion between different ideas of their numbering.

Although IMDB identifies the second batch of episodes as Season 2, Netflix released them as Part 2 of Season 1. Accordingly, TVDB considers them to be a continuation of Season 1. If you number the episodes of Part 2 as S01E12 to S01E20, Emby will scrape the correct metadata from TVDB for the episodes.

Yeah, I figured that it was season/part deduction fail, but wasn't sure how to proceed. Decided to manually change season/ep numbers for every episode. Not as good as solution as I wanted, but it works for now at least (didn't want to touch physical files on the disk). I guess, it marks this issue as resolved.

Thank you everyone.

The other posters covered this show but just to expand the point, your naming generally has to match whats on your metadata provider.  If you name an episode S03E13 and TVDB doesn't have an episode 13 of season three, you aren't getting metadata.  That's not an Emby problem ;)

That's not the issue here - it was just a disagreement with TVDB over what makes a season in this particular show.
