JanetH 0
New Emby user... I have Emby server running on my Windows 7 computer. I can connect fine using my web browser, or my Android phone or Roku locally over WiFi. However, if I turn off WiFi on my phone (using data), or try to connect from my mom's Roku at her place, it fails to connect. I have tried using Emby Connect as well as entering my IP address manually. I checked Windows firewall to make sure embyserver.exe and port 8096 were open to the public. I have restarted Windows and restarted the Emby server, but no change. Any ideas?
Guest asrequested
You need to portforward through your router. Take a look at this. https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Wiki/wiki/Connectivity#external-connections
JanetH 0
Sorry, I'm still having trouble with this. I have a Netgear WNDR3700. My IP address is assigned dynamically by my ISP (changes occasionally). I tried setting up port forwarding (HTTP or TCP I assume?) in the router settings. It won't let me use the WAN address listed in Emby, and the local LAN address still won't let me access remotely. Any other tips?
Guest asrequested
Who is your ISP?

Guest asrequested
And you're sure you configured the portforwarding, correctly? It should be fairly straightforward.

JanetH 0
Here's what I setup in my Netgear router. It won't let me enter anything out of the 192.168.1.x range. I don't know what I'm doing, but can't connect to that port remotely (using the WAN address listed in Emby).
Guest asrequested
Is the LAN IP on the server dashboard the same IP you're entering in the router?
JanetH 0
Yep, 192.168.1.
Guest asrequested
Oh wait, you have it set to ftp. It needs to be tcp.
JanetH 0
The entry for Emby is set for TCP. The summary screen I posted just defaults to FTP for new services.
Guest asrequested
If you reboot your computer, does your LAN IP change?
Guest asrequested
Do you also have a Comcast router?
JanetH 0
No, my own Motorola Surfboard cable modem. I "think" I have it working now. I rebooted the router and my computer. My WAN address stayed the same, but the LAN address changed. I updated the port forwarding in my router with the new address, then tested and was surprised to see it connect successfully. I'm still not able to play a video on my Android phone (without Wifi), but that's probably due to my poor cell connection. I can access all of the menu's successfully, so I assume the rest will work. I'm trying to set this up so my mom can watch my videos at her place, but won't see her again till next week. I'll try it then when I visit next. Guest asrequested
Yeah, that sounds about right. Sometimes the IP will get reassigned to another device, so a reboot will correct that. If it happens again, try giving it a static IP.
