Hi

Have a synology NAS.

Public IP setup and ssl cert installed from letsencrypt.

Domain is set to only be accessible via ssl/https

All works well.

using DS video and plex

I want to try Emby as told it is much better :)

Got package installed and gave it access to a shared media folder.

Trying to log into emby server to configure the medial source.

Here is the problem.

I cannot access it via the domain name or local Ip.

With domain name I get SSL_ERROR_RX_RECORD_TOO_LONG in Firefox.

https://mydomain.co.uk:8096/web/dashboard.html

port tcp 8096 is forwarded in firewall.

Had something similar with plex.

Had to create a a pfx and put it in the plex folder.

Can this be resolved by simply finding the emby folder and copying the pfx cert there?

Maybe I have to edit a config file too?

Unable to finds emby folder to test though.

Cheers.

ok seems i need to convert the pfx to pkcs12.

Once done where is best place to put this pkcs12 file?

run

openssl pkcs12 -export -out mydomain.co.uk.pfx -inkey privkey.pem -in cert.pem -certfile chain.pem

Enter a password and confirm it.

Completes with no errors but no pkcs12 file in folder with other certs??

Searching the volume for a pkcs12 file but going to take a long long time to complete.

ssl cert is created. path and password entered on advanced setup page.

After I hit Save it gives the message 'Not Found'.

Tried renaming cert to lots of different extension and get same error.

Clearly emby is noit for me.

Uninstalling emby and back to ds video and plex.

No problems with the cert for them

Thanks!

really? I found the install instructions for emby here!

https://emby.media/nas-server.html

I followed these instructions and it worked very well.  And after doing so I used the method for other things.  Pretty straight forward.

Excellent. Thanks for the link. I think i did look at this briefly but thought it was the opposite of what I wanted (thought it was for http only)

All working now. I followed CChris instructions to the letter (so many thanks to CChris too). Nice and simple and no messing about with installing certs into emby itself.

All I can say is WOW!

Well and this:

Loving this.

Going to add my TV shows and Movies and see how that goes.

If all goes well i will be adding the Lifetime Premier.

My users are going to love it. Chromecasting music is going to be the seller.

And album art in folder view, something Plex is missing.

Will have to test access from outside of the LAN first :)

Has missed quite a few bits of folder art but maybe that is a problem with the format of my files?

Can you give an example?

Thanks but another scan picked everything up.

Now using Emby as a replacement for DS Video, DS Audio and Moments.Do slightly miss a few features of Moments but can live with that.

I only have one issue that's a pain. I find the android app very slow loading videos (ones that play direct, mp4, and ones that need encoding, mkv). Sometimes they take several minutes to start playing, rarely they don't play at all (but show as playing in the Dashboard). Going forward everything uploaded will be mp4.

I have the issue with a few different TVs and Chromecasts.

Playing the same file to the same Chromecast/TV from Chrome works much better (as does directly from the Samsung TV App). Videos start to play in a few seconds. I have saved my Emby server as a chrome link on the phones home screen. Works almost just like the App but without the slowness.

Not a problem for me but will be for my few users who do not have Samsung TV. I have provided instructions to them so when they start using Emby they can do the same with Chrome.

Did not put me off though and bought the lifetime Premiere yesterday.

When I get a chance I will file a report with logs etc.
