Guest asrequested Posted July 19, 2019 Posted July 19, 2019 Ffmpeg can convert truehd to flac 7.1. And, flac 7.1 (also lossless) plays just fine from Emby to Emby Apple TV mpv client, all channels are played. Why convert to flac instead of just decoding it?
sfatula 196 Posted July 19, 2019 Posted July 19, 2019 (edited) Because it works with no Apple TV app changes? Could be done on server transcode and no loss at all to quality. Shouldn't be any licensing issues either. Edited July 23, 2019 by sfatula
vdatanet 1586 Posted August 13, 2019 Posted August 13, 2019 (edited) But the day the Emby app for Apple TV plays 4K HDR (I hope someday ), this server-level transcoding will break HDR if audio track is DTS. Therefore the DTS track will sooner or later have to be decoded on the client side. It is not immediate, but you must take it into account in your roadmap like your competitors do. vdatanet 1586 Posted September 17, 2019 Posted September 17, 2019 (edited) In case anyone is interested in supporting this request on change.org: https://www.change.org/p/dolby-mat-v2-0-or-full-bitstream-audio-passthrough-support-on-the-apple-tv-4k It makes a bit of anger that the device is capable and that by a decision Apple does not have audio passthrough. vdatanet 1586 Posted December 13, 2020 Posted December 13, 2020 This has been discussed in various threads, but this thread is perhaps best suited to continue the discussion about DTS / TrueHD direct playback. The MPV player has received major enhancements such as HDR tone mapping and a substantial improvement in the playback of interlaced content. In my opinion the next step is direct playback of DTS, DTS-MA and TrueHD. The MPV player is fully capable of doing this, so I request client decode to LPCM for these format, especially to avoid direct streaming in favor of direct play. 2
horstepipe 377 Posted December 13, 2020 Author Posted December 13, 2020 (edited) Fully agree!! The tvOS Emby app looks so damn beautiful. It’s a shame we have to use infuse/MrMC/Kodi because of that missing feature. Edited December 13, 2020 by horstepipe
sfatula 196 Posted December 13, 2020 Posted December 13, 2020 I would argue framerate matching is #1. But I would agree direct playback of those formats should be #2.

Bash103 4 Posted February 7, 2024 Posted February 7, 2024 Wish I had known Emby doesn't support DTS. Guess I'm going to have to look at Plex again, unfortunately.
