I currently use a buffalo 600dhp router with dd-wrt on it. I love the openvpn capabilities on it and being able to remote into my home network from anywhere.

Reading up on the edgerouter it should have the same capabilities and handle more traffic. Likely even more stable, as much as i love dd-wrt it comes with some annoyances.

Why do you need five POE switches on that router?

I don't need 5 but having 2 will be a nice way to power my 2 APS and will free up 2 power outlets.

Ubiquiti stuff is really nice.  Can't really go wrong with their products.
