cw-kid 192
Hi Just tried this today on my XBOX 360. I can play videos To the XBOX 360 via the Emby web GUI in Chrome on my laptop. But I cannot go in to the XBOX 360 dashboard Video player and detect the Emby DLNA server. In fact the XBOX 360 only detects the Windows Media Player 12 library on my Windows file server. There are other DLNA Servers on the LAN like Logitech Media Server and DVBLInk TV Server and the XBOX doesn't see any of these either. If I look in Windows Media Player on my Windows flle server, I can see that Emby is listed in there as another DLNA server. But it doesn't seem to be working great, for example if I go in to Emby -> Music -> Albums it splits the albums into the individual tracks. If I go to Emby -> Videos or into Emby -> Videos -> Folder -> Current Folder it seems to just lump all the movies and tv show episodes in to one big list. Also the Emby DLNA Server just vanishes from view in Windows Media Player and you have to exit and re-open the application for it to come back again. Maybe all this is just Windows Media Player and how it behaves when browsing the Emby DLNA Server? Never really did like DLNA and glad I don't really need to use it. cw-kid 192
What client apps do people typically use for browsing DLNA servers? I looked in VLC for Windows Store app and the Emby DLNA Server looks much better in this app, you can see the Folder / Library structure of Emby much better. Here's the music albums. takes quite a while for content to load up and be displayed though. Albums don't appear to be split like in WMP. Here's the movies again long time for anything to be loaded and no artwork when browsing DLNA Server? Also it only loaded so many movies, wasn't sure how to see the rest of them? Couldn't see a next page option in this VLC app. Here is the last movie loaded on the page at the bottom (Abandonded) Abandoned.avi is actually in its own movie folder like all the other movie titles, so not sure why its showing the .avi and not the Abandoned folder. DLNA has always seemed a bit clunky to me. Edited September 3, 2015 by cw-kid
adamtoth 0
Hi there, new user to Emby trying to get it working. I am getting the same issue where the Xbox360 won't see the Emby server, but Emby can see the Xbox 360 just fine and play to it. The xbox can see the default Windows Media UPNP on the same box, as well as a serviio instance, so I figure it is something in the communication between Emby and the xbox that the xbox doesn't like. I took the time to do a wireshark trace between the xbox and my media server. One thing that stood out to me is that Emby is not sending the dlna:X_DLNADoc content, while Windows UPNP and serviio are. In my XBox 360 profile, I have it set to DMS-1.50, but that value never gets sent to the xbox 360. I'm wondering if it is as simple as including that node in the xml to get it working. I also noticed that in the Server HTTP header, that both the working ones have "UPnP/1.0" in the string. Here is the raw response from emby when the xbox asks it for information: GET /dlna/b67df29b5c379445fde78c3774ab518d/description.xml HTTP/1.1 User-Agent: Xbox/2.0.17489.0 UPnP/1.0 Xbox/2.0.17489.0 Luke 37095
@@adamtoth good info here, thanks. I'm pretty sure I've tested with and without the dlna doc but I will take another look at that. What version of the server are you on? If you're on the latest stable, can you get the beta off the website just in case that might make any difference? Thanks. adamtoth 0
Tried it with the latest beta and experienced the same thing. The DLNA Doc stuff was not passed to the Xbox, and neither was the UPNP/1.0 string in the Server header. If you can get me a build that includes that information, I'd be happy to test it. adamtoth 0
Rats, no luck. I see the xmlns coming through in the traces. I noticed that you put the xmlns:dlna on both the root element and the X_DLNADOC element. I think it only needs to be on it once, prefereably on the Root element, so that it applies to the DLNACap element as well. Maybe it is just that picky. Can you try one more time? Other than that, it has to be something else. I wish I could use fiddler to rewrite the headers coming from Emby and try a bunch of stuff, but Fiddler will only let me see outgoing originating traffic, not incoming, and I can't configure xbox to use Fiddler as a proxy. It could be one of the headers, like X-FRAME-OPTIONS or something, otherwise I'm just asking you to stab in the dark and keep feeding different builds. -Adam
Luke 37095
Thanks for your help. I agree it is probably something else. I have been chasing this one for a while.
adamtoth 0
Hey Luke, Any chance you can provide a build without the duplicate xmlns attribute? I don't think you need the following if you have it on the root already: builder.Append("<dlna:X_DLNADOC xmlns:dlna=\"urn:schemas-dlna-org:device-1-0\">M-DMS-1.50</dlna:X_DLNADOC>"); Also, what would I need to do to build Emby from source so that I can play around with the ServiceStack/Mono headers and see if any of them are the reason for the 360 not liking it? I am a .net dev.
Luke 37095
Hi, to build you don't need anything other than pulling down the solution and running it.
Luke 37095
Is there someone here who can try dev build 3.0.5891.30026 and test if the xbox 360 can see emby server? Thanks!

Hi Luke, I have a few days off this week and can work on this. I'll check out this build tonight. I've been trying unsuccessfully to make a local build, and to to try debugging the server. Do you have time to do a quick screen share session to help me get going?

Thanks @@Luke I cannot see the xbox 360 from the dev server but I can from the beta. Dev 3.0.5891.30026 Beta 3.0.5880.0 Neither are visible on 360. Happy2Play 8296
"Play to" appears on dev server also, but not visible on 360. Some reason had to set a friendly name on dev server before it populated same as beta.
Luke 37095
so after setting a name you can see the server from the 360?
