"By Letter" Sorting Disappeared In Newest Beta?

Hey, just wanted to lodge a complaint. I loved being able to search my Movies or TV Shows "By Letter", but with the newest Beta release (138), that option is gone. :(  Please bring it back!

Thanks,

Ed R.

Thanks for the feedback ! Hopefully you will find this easier.

Even better, if you are running the latest version of Emby Server, then the letters you will see will be based on the titles you have.

As Luke said our intention was to make it easier to discover your titles with an accurate alpha-picker. With the latest version of Emby server the app will do that. There is an ability to show more letters/symbols than 27 (#A-Z). You can scroll to the rest as I do in the image above to get to Æon Flux. The # has scrolled up and out-of-view. The alpha-picker wraps start->end and end->start so you should be able to navigate this with minimal button presses. Go either way you want up/down.

The poster grid now wraps too. You can go left through the alpha-picker onto the poster grid, or press right when all the way right to scroll through to the left (like a pac-man maze does with the tunnels) to the other side of the poster grid. Before this wasn't possible. We did this to minimize the buttons you need to press to get where you want to go. The alpha-picker reduces button clicks required, has faster loading of just the items you want, no loading of the items you don't, and makes a better presentation that matches other emby apps. The old by-letter view had to load every letter A-Z as independent rows then fill each of these rows with a few movies that begin each letter. Then if your choice wasn't in the letter row you had to use [show more...] and it just made it more buttons the user has to press to get to where they want to be. It wasn't intuitive before, now it is.

No matter how you do the math the outcome is always the same. Alpha-Picker in Grid > By-Letter View. You do the math. :)
