mariors44 18 Posted April 19, 2014 Posted April 19, 2014 Just wondering if you are working on themes to repair bugs. It's been a long time since any of your themes have been updated. I have been waiting for Rock theme update for a while since I really can't use it do to really bad jerkiness. thanks.
ebr 15365 Posted April 20, 2014 Posted April 20, 2014 Lee may be on Spring Holiday. It is that time of year.
leedavies 301 Posted April 22, 2014 Posted April 22, 2014 Apologies I've been quiet recently folks. The real world and work has taken up a lot of my time. I am working on updates and will have something for you in a week or so. I'll post more details nearer the time. 3
1972 15 Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 I don't want to be negative... but seen that reaction before... I have switched to Chocolat a couple of months ago and discovered that it works perfectly for my needs. I used to use Crystal, but it still contains to much bugs for me. Which is a shame, because the theme's from Lee look great! Maybe it was better if Lee focused more on one single theme that works, instead of releasing 4 themes which all have there own issues which he has to support, while having little time for it. It feels like they are finshed for 99% and only the last % needs to be fixed. ... But than again this is my point of view standing on the sideline. On the other hand I hope there is only a small group that is having problems with Lee's theme's and that these issues do not influence people who choose MediaBrowser3 in the nearby future... 1
newfiend 22 Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 (edited) I really like Crystal as well but it just has too many issues for me. I switched to chocolate as well for stability reasons. I hope at some point Crystal gets updated again as I really like the theme. Sent from my Lumia 920 using Tapatalk Edited April 23, 2014 by newfiend
Dibbes 438 Posted May 7, 2014 Posted May 7, 2014 Since we´re more than 2 weeks down the road since you made the statement you´d have more in a week or so, I´m wondering if you had an update. Especially since I asked exactly this question about 2 months ago. I don´t want to be nasty, but this gives a feeling you´re leaving your (paying) users hanging in limbo. 2
LiquidFX 138 Posted May 7, 2014 Posted May 7, 2014 (edited) I bought 3 themes and cant really use either one of them because of the bugs, not happy Edited May 7, 2014 by LiquidFX
ireme 11 Posted May 7, 2014 Posted May 7, 2014 Yes, we are in limbo waiting day by day an working update, in my case for Breeze. But I think Lee has had serious problems updating themes, because in the past it has proven to be a responsible person.
Tester 45 Posted May 7, 2014 Posted May 7, 2014 I am also hoping works continues shortly on these great themes but I am sure Lee has a very good reason for the dealy. As Ireme mentioned, Lee has been great in supporting his themes in the past, sometimes even on a daily basis with releases.
gregfink 0 Posted May 13, 2014 Posted May 13, 2014 I gave up on Lee's and just went back to Chocolate. Loved ROC, but its not usable.
politby 88 Posted May 13, 2014 Posted May 13, 2014 Yeah, I so wanted to use Aztec but it just doesn't work. I suspect Lee underestimated the amount of time and effort required to maintain something like this. Happens to the best of us. Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk
ireme 11 Posted May 13, 2014 Posted May 13, 2014 (edited) ebr, Continuing what gvollero requests, before was possible could pick different versions of the themes from the Media Browser Configurator, but since download themes from Classic MediaBrowser out since the latest versions are available.I agree with you that the latest version should be more stable, but in the case of the Lee themes the last version are not usuable and the previous versions was more stable and many people are waiting a long time for an update.Meanwhile Lee release a new version, much would like to install the previous version. ebr 15365 Posted May 13, 2014 Posted May 13, 2014 Only if he is releasing things in different levels. What should happen is the plug-in is put out at dev or beta until most all the issues are worked out and then put out at release. That way people can keep a stable system on the Release level and only get updates when things have been thoroughly fleshed out. 3
gjviii 48 Posted May 13, 2014 Posted May 13, 2014 IS there a way to roll back to a previous version? I don't remember seeing as many issues in the last version
ebr 15365 Posted May 14, 2014 Posted May 14, 2014 Well, I don't really want to complicate the interface with multiple version selection. We really need the devs to use the levels properly.
mariors44 18 Posted May 14, 2014 Author Posted May 14, 2014 with so many problems with these themes, all themes should be free while in dev or beta until final release and with no trail period expiration, that way no one will feel like they got ripped off and have more time to find bugs. Also in MB3 forum their should be entry just for themes it would be easier to report bugs for themes people are using and for the developer to find what people are reporting. For how long MB3 has been out there are only two themes that is stable and both of those are free, but it sure would be nice to have more options. 4
Dibbes 438 Posted May 14, 2014 Posted May 14, 2014 (edited) Well, I don't really want to complicate the interface with multiple version selection. We really need the devs to use the levels properly. @ebr: How about an "Advanced option" somewhere in the menu? A checkbox won't clutter so much and people can choose. Best of both worlds I'd say. Also, I noticed that, as theme's progress, using hardware that's a little more limited (the xbox as extender is an example), they may start to show display/smoothness issues. This has absolutely nothing to do with the themes, but everything with the setup. It would be nice to have the option to revert to older builds, if only for this. Edited May 14, 2014 by Dibbes 1
techywarrior 688 Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 (edited) haha, lets get to the root of the problem... where did the theme developers all go? Lee made some themes that people purchased and I guess there are some issues caused by the new version(s) of MBC (I don't know since I don't use his themes). SoulTaker made Square and I believe mentioned another was in the works. His theme(s) also don't support some of the new features although I haven't experienced major issues. Then there is Cheesegeezer who I believe made a theme (or it's in the works). Lee and SoulTaker have been away/MIA for a while now. Cheese I have seen a bit but I guess he is busy with other things... or his themes currently support everything. (don't know for sure since I don't use it) Hopefully the theme devs come back soon because all these people who purchased themes probably have an expectation that they would work a little longer then just a couple of months. Also, it's not great for new users when they move to MB3 (either from MB2 or Plex) and most of the themes are no longer getting support. Edited May 15, 2014 by techywarrior 4
ebr 15365 Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 Best of both worlds if you don't have to code it . You asked for an option for an option. Configurable options are the hardest thing to code for and are used by a very small percentage of users. This makes them very expensive in terms of cost/benefit. I'd rather attack the true problem at its root and get more stable with plug-in releases. Plus, adding this ability just means we'll have that many more people running that many more versions of everything which gets harder and harder to support. In an environment that is evolving as quickly as we are it gets a lot harder to support if people aren't up to date on everything.
Dibbes 438 Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 Lol! Fair enough. Not an option for an option though, just a checkbox to hide some lines on the screen, which is the easy part. Coding the real option is more difficult... And yes, time-intensive and prone to issues if the devs use it wrongly. It was a thought or a nice-to-have, rather. I guess I should make the xbox into an exbox anyway I do concede your point regarding the support...
joshstix 25 Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 This thread is really shining a light on a bigger issue with Media Browser. I really like the look of a lot of the work Lee has done and was keen to try out his themes over a long period of time but each time I was ready to buy them I'd check the support threads for them and there was always far too many people with issues making the themes unusable. As far as I can see these themes never got to a state that would justify a release version coming out rather than a Beta. I'm not a huge fan of super locked down app stores like the Apple app store but I think there is a certain duty of care that the "owners" of the project have to the community to make sure that if the media browser ecosystem is being used to sell a product that product should meet certain minimum quality levels. Otherwise we end up with people getting disillusioned that they have paid for a product that is not fit for purpose. 5
