rpoitras 1
I have a trip coming this week and wanted to sync a couple of movies on my 2-in-1 Samsung TabPro S and have a few issues I've been seeing in the log. Attempting to sync a DVD of Fifth Element produces the following in the log: Unknown encoder 'mpeg2video' Also, attempting to sync a Blu-Ray rip of The Dark Knight says the same except the encoder is "vc1". My server is Linux Mint (planning to go full Ubuntu Server very soon) which is based on Ubuntu 14.x. I have never had any issues with my server so far, BTW, so this is very out of character. I rip my movies using a paid version of MakeMKV. The movies will stream fine if just playing even from the Windows 10 app. The issue seems to be with sync only. Also, in trying to sync other movies some of them are fine but others have a really, really long duration (like thousands of hours) making seeking impossible. The movie will play fine but the duration is WAY out of whack. Has anyone else experienced this? I didn't attach logs right now because I was just wondering if this is a known issue already (?). Any help would be appreciated. Edited October 1, 2018 by rpoitras
Luke 37097
Hi there, can we look at an example? Please attach the information requested in how to report a problem. thanks !
rpoitras 1
Hi Luke, Thanks for looking. I attached the server log as well as a few transcode logs. The Dark Knight (spelling fail when I named the log) - Unknown encoder 'vc1' The Fifth Element - Unknown encoder 'mpeg2video' Interstellar - Perfectly fine including movie duration Spider Man Homecoming - can watch but movie duration is thousands of hours long; noticed this in log "[matroska @ 0x14c9840] Starting new cluster due to timestamp [matroska @ 0x14c9840] Starting new cluster due to timestamp", not sure if it means anything. The server is Linux Mint, based on Ubuntu 14.x. The client I am trying to sync to is a Samsung Galaxy TabPro S tablet running Windows 10 Pro. I noticed the movie duration issue a few days ago and if I kept deleting the synced movie and re-syncing, causing a new transcode, eventually I would get a good copy where the duration was correct on the client. I DID check the duration of one of the "bad duration" movies using Windows properties and it also reported a very large duration (thousands of hours). DarkNightLog_FAIL.txt FifthElementLog_FAIL.txt InterstellarLog_OK.txt ServerLog.txt SpiderManLog_BAD_DURATION.txt
Luke 37097
Are you trying to play using the Emby app? These failing command lines are trying to encode to vc1, that should never be happening in the first place.
rpoitras 1
I'm just trying to sync a few movies to the tablet for offline viewing by selecting a movie and clicking the "Sync" button. If, instead, I just choose to play the movie it streams to the device just fine, although I'm not sure if transcoding was needed or not. For sync, I left the default quality setting to 4mbps (?) so it's definitely converting the movie to save space and this is where I'm seeing the issues. Luke 37097
What app are you syncing to?
rpoitras 1
The Emby app from the Windows Store. I have Emby Theater installed as well but only have the option to download the raw movie which would take up a lot of space for blu-rays.

rpoitras 1
One question: What's the detected media information for those two files in your library? Is there an easy way to get this info or do you mean just from the movie listing? I see the following: The Fifth Element - 480i mpeg2video and audio is Dolby Digital stereo and Dolby Digital 5.1 The Dark Knight - 1080p VC1 and audio is Dolby Digital 5.1 and TRUEHD 5.1 Edit: Just saw the full media info lower down.
