Chromecast - Playback stop without any reason

Hello !

I think after a week of investigation by myself, i will ask for help :(.

I have a problem with my 2 servers (one in my local network, one external). And i really don't know what to do.

When i cast some movie/tv show on my chromecast, after some time (can be 3 minutes or 1 hour), the playback stop by himself, and i have to constantly relaunch it.

I tried everything i was able to do (and think).

I use my server with a proxy with apache (to use emby with the port 443). So i tried with the proxy, same problem.

I tried with the https port (8920), still the same problem.

I tried with the http port (8096), still the same problem.

And i have this problem ONLY with the chromecast, i have ZERO issue with the app on my phone, or with Kodi with the plugin on my computer/Xbox One, or direct play on the website.

And in the log i cant find nothing, except a "SocketException" but with no clue.

And in the FFmpeg log, no error (or i cant see them), the one thing i can see its at the end of the log, i have something like that :

frame= 6698 fps= 40 q=26.0 size=N/A time=01:31:39.64 bitrate=N/A speed=33.2x

frame= 6698 fps= 40 q=26.0 Lsize=N/A time=01:31:39.64 bitrate=N/A speed=33.2x

A "L" before the size, duno why.

I will try to give you some logs (with the exact problem).

I have this problem on 2 servers, one on my local network, one on an external network. Tried with at last 2 differents phones/chromecast.

Any clue before i post some log?

Thk in advance ! And ask if you need something !

I think i will just add some things :

- the 2 servers run on Debian (8 if i remember)

- i tried with the stable version and beta, still the same

- tried with material transcription, still the same

- tried with several movies/tv show, 480p/720p/1080p, direct stream or transcode, still the same

And i had no issue when i was on a Plex server (on the same server), but i really want to stay on Emby now, more friendly for me, but i dont want to pay a sub before all my problem are solved (even if i want to help the developer).

Thk !

Hello !

So there is the log, i just rebooted the server for a new log, and launched a movie with my phone on the chromecast.

And the playback stopped at 20:26, i was not touching my phone :-(.

There is the server log and the ffmpeg log.

Its already on manuel 1080 - 10 Mbit, you want i try lower? (i already saw in other post that can solve the problem, but not with me :-( ).

During this time, i begin to think the problem isn't server side but client side, it seems i got problem on my phone (Android 8.1), my sister too (Android 8 i think), and a friend too (android 8.0 too), but my wife seems to don't have problem (android 7.1.2), and the husband on my friend don't have problem too (IPhone). Various config too (root/no root, Xposed/no Xposed), but maybe its a bug with android 8.0+? (just an hypothesis).

And when the playback stop, i can see in the Activity log on the server that the user stopped himself the playback. Duno if it help.

(Sry its in french but i think you can understand :-D).

I still can't confirm this, i did a lot of things this week (installed a new server, merged all the files, beginning to convert all my medias thk to Emby Premiere !), but when its stop on the phone i can't find a lot of thing on the log of the server :-(.

On the same time you know who to have the log on android? On my phone i can't find them in Android/data (and i think it should be in that) to try to look at that myself. The app already have the permission.

I am not developer but my real job is to test some programs (web/phone), so if i can help you just ask me :).

News about the android version, the bug is here even if the android version is 5.1 :-( so i don't think its that.

Anyway the same user, on the same network, on the same server, at the same moment (just after the fail with the android phone), but with an IPhone had any problem at all after 3h of playback, so really i duno :-(.

Any news about that? I am losing hope without any solution to my problem, i can't use my server(s) with my chromecast and my family too, and if i can't find a solution i will cancel my sub and go back to Plex, cause even if i like more Emby cause of the real external solution and configuration, if i can't get it work i will have no choice :-(.

I just installed a NEW server, just did a minimal configuration, (i got a nextcloud, phpmyadmin, transmission and emby on this server), and still the same problem.

I have a lot of problem with the android app itself, chromecast disconnect, playback not showing on the phone, playback stop, and for now i just lost a lot of time for nothing :-(.

I tried a lot of thing, nothing :-(.

Uninstall complete of emby-server, install with stable, reconfigure with minimal settings (user, add my media, disable DLNA, disable auto port mapping cause of error in log "Adress already in use").

I connect to my server with internal ip (192.168.1.61), on the normal http port (without my redirection with apache so) on 8096, i converted the media i played so the server dont need to transcode it completely (just a direct stream), set 1080 - 8 Mbit in the app setting for chromecast, and i still had a cut...

Here is the log.

For this one maybe, but i already tried with lower bitrade with the same result (the other log in the post have bitrate <10 mbit).

For example anyway this one from yesteday...

Hi.  That still has a relatively high bitrate setting.  Have you tried setting it down to 1Mb like suggested and tried that?

If that plays smoothly, then you can try 2Mb etc.

But why i should have problem with that in total local cast? I should be ok for an external server, but even if i am in local, with local network without any problem, i can't cast at this bitrate?

I have absolutely no problem with Plex (with the same movies), but i have constant crash with Emby... And i dont speak about the constant disconnect of Emby from Chromecast (and it seem i am not the one like that), the bug with OxgenOS and lockscreen, and the notification with control that disappear or just never show....

And why people with IPhone on the exact same server/file don't have problem? Or 3 people on 3 different chromecast/phone/connection/server have some problem? :/

I really try a lot of thing, but i still have generic answer...

I LOVE Emby over Plex, and i should be really sad if i should be came back with Plex, but now...

Can you please just try it?  That will help us determine if the stopping problem is due to it being too high of a bitrate.

The Chromecast is a wireless device.  A lot of things can interfere with that...

Believe it or not, you aren't the sole user of Emby.  Look around the boards and look at the support this community gets and gives.  Your original post was barely a week ago.  I think the response you've gotten is pretty solid given everything else going on.  Relax and cooperate.

For now i tried in 720 1 mbit, and a litle 1080 4 mbit without cut, but this will not resolve my problem anyway, and the problem is random so this prove nothing for now, i will need more test and more time again...

An other test this morning, an other cut :-(.

I was in the app at 1080 - 4 Mbps, and its was a direct play (so no ffmpeg log).

It was at 7:39:25.

The file :

Like i said i tested at 720 - 1 mbit, then 720 - 2 Mbit, and this one, the problem is the cut is random.
