Jdiesel 1114 Posted June 21, 2018 Share Posted June 21, 2018 I just returned from a vacation where I had a lot of flights and periods of time without reliable wifi or data. I had a lot of time to test the offline playback capabilities of the Android mobile app and here is my feedback. 1. First and most importantly there are lots of issues with getting media from the server to actually download on the android device. Downloads that fail to start and fail to complete and restart from the beginning are the most common issues. I was eventually able to get a few files on my device by choosing a very small bitrate (1Mbps) to decrease the file size, prevent the device screen from sleeping, and keeping the Emby app open the entire time the file was downloading. Any disruption causes the download to fail and start from the beginning again. Files that fail to start all together, happens often, can be started by going into the "offline sync" settings on the app then back to the home screen. 2. When watching a video you are frequently kick out to the lock screen. Can't restart playback because play/pause button is missing. Had headphone plugged in during the video so you can't hear the audio in the video below but there is audio. https://drive.google.com/open?id=1eGG2tvwoDEUA-3XSr5M0HPbRTEAOfdi8 In the end I ended up downloading the original file from the webui and using VLC to play them as Emby was unusable for offline playback.
