AYarter 3
Hello: When I play x264 files that are remuxed from blu rays, or 4k files at very high bitrates the player freezes. Typically, I can watch 45 minutes to an hour before the player locks -- I get a frame every few seconds. This is a Samsung KS 8000. My Samsung UBD-k8500 player (not tizen) exhibits similar behavior, but it only shows the round circle indicating buffering, and continues on its merry way. If this is a buffer limitation, how do I fix it? If it is a player limitation, is there a player that is better suited? Adam Below is the mediainfo for the file that is giving me issues. There are two or three othere that have had issues. Luke 37095
Hi there, can you please attach the emby server and ffmpeg log (if there was one)? You can learn how to do that here: https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/739-how-to-report-a-problem/ Thanks.
AYarter 3
Gere you are. There was no ffmpeg log since it was a direct play.
Luke 37095
Did you forget to attach the server log? If it was a direct play I'm not sure what we can really do other than suggest that you lower the in-app quality setting to force a transcode. When you attach your server log the only thing I'm really going to be looking for is any possible indication of high resource consumption on the machine so that you can turning off whatever is causing that. AYarter 3
I could have sworn that I did. Here it is again. I don't think that ther esi a resource issue, though this machine cannot transcode 4k in real time. I'm wondering if this is a limitation of the player. Luke 37095
I'm wondering if this is a limitation of the player. It's either that or limitation of the network connection on the TV. Server log looks fine.
SamES 891
I'm inclined to suggest checking what your network/router/server load is doing when this occurs. As you mentioned, the two devices you have mentioned run different operating systems, the TV is Tizen and the player is Orsay. The Samsung player in each is similar, but not identical, so if you are seeing the same problem on both, I would be looking to network or maybe the server is struggling to keep up. 60Mb/s shouldn't be a problem for either, but worth checking. I've had both devices and haven't experienced this problem. Are you using wireless (2.4 or 5GHz, g, n or ac) or ethernet (100Mb or 1Gb)?
AYarter 3
I'm using wired 1gb ethernet. I think the TV only accepts 100 mb. The server load is 0.1 at the time, and it's always the same point in the video. My router is a frontier FIOS router, but I'm hard pressed to think that it can't hang. I could always switch out with a CISCO for some config time. It always seems to happen at the same time in the videos. It's as if there's a sudden bust in bitrate and it can't keep up. I'm just trying to confirm before I buy yet another player...
SamES 891
Can you try with Wireless? I've played 80 Mb/s and higher content via wireless with no problem and it can actually sustain higher bitrates than the 100Mb interface. I use 5GHz, N-band

SamES 891
Upon further testing, that didn't do it. It looks like it's time to buy a shield. That may or not solve it, but since you have the same issue on two different devices, I suspect the cause is not the player or device.
AYarter 3
@@SamES The issue is solved. My best guess is that there is some kind of hardware commonality between the two devices, since they are Samsung.
SamES 891
I have had both of those exact models and didn't see that problem, and to the best of my knowledge, no one else has reported this problem on the forum with a Samsung device.
SamES 891
Are you enabling subtitles? Just be aware that if you do it will cause it to transcode, not DirectPlay, due to PGS subs Edited May 10, 2018 by SamES
AYarter 3
In am not enabling subtitles. This happens on a select few films, usually am hour or so in. It seems to be related to the file itself. File is direct playing. Shield does just fine. I'd be happy to supply the files in question. I suspect that it is a hardware limitation and poorly encoded files (vbr?), as I see the issues in the exact same place in plex.
SamES 891
Interesting that you see it in Plex as well. You might be right about vbr, especially if it's always in the same spot. Thanks for the extra info.
FrostByte 5052
I suspect that it is a hardware limitation and poorly encoded files (vbr?), as I see the issues in the exact same place in plex. The mediainfo you posted above though is not a reencode, it's a straight remux from a decrypted UHD. Agree it could be hardware limitation of Samsung TV/BD players and the vbr. Edit: According to the chart I posted above your file may be maxing out the abilities of the bitrate allowed by your TV when the file is at its highest vbr peak. That is if I'm reading the chart correctly Edited May 10, 2018 by FrostByte
