Library Scans

I personally don't have this issue as I have one movie per folder, but perhaps it is affecting many people.

Actually you (and everybody else) also have this issue.

In your case It's just less notable as in my case.

In your case every movie gets scanned twice. Once through the regular folder scan and one more time through the scan of the movie itself (because the movie's parent is the same folder).

Therefore in your case the overall rescan time is about twice as long as it needs to be.

I have tested this also and longer library scans with movies all in one directory do significantly increase the time taken by orders of magnitude

so the issue @@FreshDog has highlighted is likely one of the reasons why slow scans are reported quite often

if unnecessary double scans are taking place then it needs to be fixed also

If there are other issues Luke has alluded to then those need to be fixed as well

Its been going on too long and needs a resolution before we move to new features

OK, perhaps it's not as evident with my libraries as it is with yours :)

Still, it needs fixing.

Hmm if it is scanning twice, I have really good speeds for 16TB.

Last ran a minute ago, taking 1 minute and 45 seconds.

No they are movie per folder.  I was just commenting on FreshDog's post how with that structure we should be experience this double scan scenario.

Sure 52 second 16TB scans would sound really good. :)

lol - 16TB is meaningless

its the number of items of media that need to be scanned that matters - 40GB 4k video file has the same effect as a 3GB 1080p video file for the same movie

:) Okay for my example

Movies     x 3497

Episodes x 14298

Songs      x  3212

Last ran a minute ago, taking 1 minute and 45 seconds.

So your library might be a good test case for @@FreshDog's observations.
