Emby Server keeps my PC (Server) awake

Most network cards support magic packets ( wol packet + nics MAC address) as opposed to just a wol packet broadcast so only the the Nic with the included mac gets woken ( supplied by arp table in your router)

I also thought that wol (hopefully magic packets) was being introduced into every emby client sometime ago which would send wol upon startup ? @@Luke

Yeah, i have resorted to using task scheduler to sleep/wake my server during known downtime, and using a wol app on the only client that may use it outside normal hours. Cuts power use by about one third to a half. Though it could easily reduce to 10ish % if it could sleep whenever inactive.

Wol integration would be really nice to have :/

I have started a WOL FR here:

WOL (magic packet) for ET clients

If you support the FR please add your like to the original post in the above feature Request .

With the latest Server updates this issue seems to get worse instead of better.

The MediaBrowser.ServerApplication.exe is now called Embyserver.exe and that file is now causing the problem.

I checked several things, closed all kinds of applications and executable files to see if the pc went to sleep mode. It just won't go into sleep mode as long as EmbyServer.exe is running.

The second I kill Embyserver.exe the pc goes to sleep mode after the period of inactivity I have set. Embytray stays visible than.

Even this command-line does not longer work (for me)

POWERCFG -REQUESTSOVERRIDE PROCESS EmbyServer.exe Display System

Isn't it possible that Embyserver keeps the pc running as long as any device is playing content from the server and when that is not the case it let's the Pc go into sleepmode?

It's driving me almost crazy now :)

Thanks.

edit: I have no longer seen Android devices when they are not connected.

Make sure to turn off any debug logging if you have turned it on.

I disabled debug logging but still the pc does not go into sleep mode for as long as EmbyServer.exe is running

Is there a solution for this issue nearby?

I have tried several things but none of them is the real solution.

These commands to override do not help. PC stays awake with Emby Server active.

POWERCFG -REQUESTSOVERRIDE PROCESS EmbyServer.exe Display System
POWERCFG -REQUESTSOVERRIDE PROCESS EmbyTray.exe Display System
POWERCFG -REQUESTSOVERRIDE PROCESS ffmpeg.exe Display System
POWERCFG -REQUESTSOVERRIDE PROCESS ffprobe.exe Display System

This command overrides the Emby Server but also when a video is playing on a connected system. This is also not an option.

Powercfg -requestsoverride DRIVER srvnet System

The one thing that does work is killing the EmbyServer.exe but than no devices can connect to Emby.

My temporarily solution (I hope) for now is to start the Emby Server only when needed and kill it when it's not. It's not ideal but necessary for me at this time.

So I hope this issue will be investigated so it will let the server go to sleep when no devices are connected to the server and not playing items and keep the pc awake when devices are connected and playing items.

Thanks.

Agreed!

Pretty annoying it is so hard to get attention on this one.

Now the Android explanation even doesn't hold anymore.

Not that I think it will help, but have you tried putting in the full path to the executable in the powercfg command?

Path as seen by "POWERCFG -REQUESTS".

I'm really happy not having upgraded - thanks for reporting!

I removed all my plugins but no change. It really seems to be embyserver.exe related.

When did you try with all plugins removed? do you have a log from that? thanks.

I deleted them again just now.

this is the latest log without all plugins.

Ok, what i would suggest is to try disabling some features to see if we can narrow it down. For example, under the Dlna section, try disabling the dlna features and see if that has an impact. thanks.

Unfortunately also not the solution.

Disabled advanced logging and DLNA without success

Latest log.

More options I can try to disable?

So how is it suppose to sleep is a trigger is causing activity every 5 minutes?

Historically that hasn't been an issue.

So scheduled takes will not prevent a server from sleeping?  If that is the cause it could stop the middle of a active task.

With all given options disabled it is not solved yet. PC stays awake when Emby Server is started.

I have observed that in gpu stats 3D always sits around 50% when no clients are active. The only process I can see that is active is electron and as the gpu stats are a fairly new addition to win 10 I am unsure if this is considered normal?

I’m still having this issue. Anything els I can try?

Tested by killing multiple other apps than the Emby Server and no sleep mode. After closing The Emby Server my pc always sleeps like a baby.
