horstepipe 356
Hey If there is any technically possibility, scraping movies with those extended genres used by Netflix would be awesome. These could also be used for really helpful suggestions :-) Here is an example site which lists the genres and links to Netflix. http://ogres-crypt.com/public/NetFlix-Streaming-Genres2.html
Luke 37119
Where could they possibly be obtained from?
horstepipe 356
Here is a script fetching the genres from dvd.netflix.com, maybe it is helpful https://github.com/patrick-klein/DVDNetflixScraper
Luke 37119
Ok so there's no netflix api. it actually extracts it from the web pages. That's a little messy and we also don't like to do that.
horstepipe 356
Yeah but think about the benefits especially about movie suggestions which would finally be really helpful. So thinking about a way doing it would be worthwhile.
Luke 37119
Have you considered asking netflix to publish an api for this?
horstepipe 356
Have you considered asking netflix to publish an api for this? This can't be serious... Tell me one reason why they should do that...
bfir3 114
This can't be serious... Tell me one reason why they should do that... So you think the developers of Emby should just use their data without their permission while also understanding that it's something Netflix would never want to do? I think that this feature would stand out Emby from Plex. I said "if that's possible". It's your product, be creative, or don't... No reason to get snippy. ebr 14935
This can't be serious... Tell me one reason why they should do that... Well, that is exactly why we cannot do it unless they do publish an API for it. Sorry, but, unless this data becomes properly available somewhere it just won't be something we can provide.
horstepipe 356
any clue how they do it? Looks like they can fetch a lot of information from Netflix including genre lists: http://unogs.com/ Maybe a collaboration is possible?

ebr 14935
any clue how they do it? Either they have an agreement with Netflix (not likely) or they are using web scraping techniques like you suggested.

horstepipe 356
@@Luke @@ebr they have an api now https://market.mashape.com/unogs/unogs which can be used for free for 100 hits per day which would be absolutely fine in my opinion. So if you'd build a server plugin like the one for rotten tomatoes and integrate it in you premium plan everyone would benefit a lot. That thing is a hack and Netflix plugged the hole a couple weeks ago. The devs are now scrambling and crowd sourcing the info for the db updates. I have a feeling the Emby team is going to steer clear. Wouldn't stop the community from creating a plugin though, I suppose.
Luke 37119
Yea even if we wanted to do that, I see lots of "not working" reports in our future everytime it breaks.
