Hi Team!

Im not sure if this is an issue with the server, or the xbox app itself. But sound during playpack of anything is about 1/2 of what it should be.

As an example, my soundbar is set to 20 - perfectly fine for watching anything through the Xbox (games, Netflix, blur ray etc).. but when i veiw anything with Embry its about 1/2 - so I need to crank the soundbar up to 40 to hear it.

Hi @@xxJonoxx there is an audio boost setting in the emby server dashboard under the Transcoding menu.

Hi Luke,

Thanks for the reply,

I found that setting but unfortunatly (fortunatly?) the majority of my media is 'direct playing' and makes no difference if i set it to 1,2 or 3

Though, playing around i found a few quirks(?)

I changed/reduced the 'Max streaming Bitrate' in the client to force the transcode.. When attempting to playback, I get nothing but black screen.

I then recall this new version was the one that supported the H/W Transcoding on the Evansports - So I enabled the VA API in transcoding (not sure if that is correct) but this showed up in the log

AVHWDeviceContext @ 0x80a3c40] No VA display found for device: /dev/dri/card0.
[vaapi @ 0x80886a4] Failed to create a VAAPI device

So im guessing it wasnt?

Ok, unfortunately, if it's direct playing then there''s not much we can do. If it's transcoding then there are things we can do but most people will not want to force transcoding just for that very reason.

And yes, try disabling Va Api.

Hi Luke,

I did that, back to 'none'.

I'm staring at a black screen for the last few mins - so its not playing anything. its also unresponsive. So I have to go back to the dash and force quit the Xbox app.

it looks like its transcoding albeit poorly at about 22fps.

As for the sound, just as a another test, I loaded up the native 'media player' app it is the correct volume. It seems to isolated the Xbox app and there is a definite reduction in volume.

The volume is already at max value in the app and we just leave it up to device volume rather than having the user manage volume in app. Your transcoding is just not happening fast enough. What is the input audio codec?

That particular file was AC3

Duration: 01:58:04.29, start: 0.078000, bitrate: 3246 kb/s

    Stream #0:0: Video: h264 (High), yuv420p(tv, bt709, progressive), 1280x536, SAR 1:1 DAR 160:67, 23.98 fps, 23.98 tbr, 1k tbn, 47.95 tbc (default)

    Stream #0:1(eng): Audio: ac3, 48000 Hz, 5.1(side), fltp, 384 kb/s (default)

For what its worth, James used my NAS as a test for the Evansport's to enable HW Trancoding, we got it up to 90-95fps

So mine may have some 'manual' changes to it (?) - more than happy to provide him (or yourself) admin access to it again.

Please don't take this the wrong way, you guys are the pros and coding is way over my head -- but are you sure with the sound that its set too max in the app? Whilst far from scientific I made a clip on my mobile that will hopefully demonstrate the difference in volume between 'direct playing' in the app vs DLNA via the Xbox media player app. (excuse the middle bit where I dropped the controller)

Its quite dramatic.

Also, with lack of propper tools, using a dB meter on the phone as a baseline the room with nothing going was averaging 40db, with Emby 47db and media player 60db

Hi @@xxJonoxx

The latest release for Synology/XPEnology (3.1.2.0-2) includes support for h/w transcoding on Evansport machines, it's just not enabled by default.

Essentially, this is the packaged result of the progress/developments we made a little while ago and tested on your machine (thanks again!).

The Evansport machine h/w transcoding implementation is proprietary, so can't be tackled in the same was as other platforms with VAAPI or QSV.

I'll post details in 2017... we're not quite there yet over here!

Hi James!

Oh, that's good to hear. Look forward to you opening it up for everyone.

Hi Luke,

Without making myself look like a boob, you were right. After much playing around, I found the cause of the issue more by mistake than anything.

What happens on the X1 app, is the use of that new background music functionally. As it happens Emby uses that same value - I am assuming if I wanted to stream music while gaming. Well I personally use Groove, but it remembered the volume level from when I had groove in the background. Best explained it this pic.

I adjusted that slider and it all went back to normal...

Thanks for your time.
