gcastro000 0
Hi, I have given up transcoding as my server is not very powerful. All my movies are ripped using H264 1080p at 12kbps. This works fine with all my clients. The problem is that sync likes to transcode the movies all the time and this makes impossible to use it. On the other hand even 12 kbps is too much of a size for a portable device if I am in a long trip. So I have started a test to keep 2 versions of a movie, both at 1080p but one of them is 12 kbps and the other 4 kbps. For example: Gremlins (1984) - 4kbps.mkv Gremlins (1984).mkv I have 2 problems: 1. Emby will choose always "Gremlins (1984) - 4kbps.mkv" to play in my regular devices ( ie FireTV) 2. The Sync settings high medium low do not seem to work, I choose medium and it starts transcoding anyway is there any way to solve this issues? Luke 38343
If you want to guarantee that sync does not transcode, then select Original quality. Otherwise it might transcode in order to ensure that the file will be playable based on the profile chosen. The goal of sync is broad compatibility, that generally means mp4, h264, etc. If you want to override that then make sure to do that.
gcastro000 0
ok, but then if I use original how it knows it should use the 4kbps or 12 kbps version?
Luke 38343
OK, I see what you're saying. Yea in this situation it might be a little random. We'll have to think about how to improve that.
gcastro000 0
The problem is not only in sync but playing the movies also, there is no way to tell the server which one we want. There should be a way to configure the client so that we set the max resolution and or bitrate and the server should be able to deliver the right file.
