Android Sync "issues"

Thanks. Just to confirm though, if you rely on the background sync, it all works as expected, no?

Not for playing via Emby, it throws me that error screen I sent u via PM.

Only if I play through VLC app in phone.

What about a file that completed successfully? not the ones that get cut off due to closing the app. thanks.

Now that (1) aren't created anymore, I'm actually talking about the completed ones.

@@Luke, only now I fully understood your question.

The broken copy files really don't appear with (1) in name.

But I haven't tested with those, there's no point trying to play them, to tell the truth.

I only tried to play after everything got synced with 100%

Ok because I tested this the other day and it played fine. I will try again.

To confirm the issue, I'll program today several syncs, and try to play all of the tomorrow.

@@Luke, I have a bad update, unfortunately...

I can't tell yet about playback... because my Android background sync has failed, just the same error seen in manual sync. It only took some more time, and probably was triggered by something else (Maybe in server, I was browsing stuff in Emby via PC)

I'm gonna start wait another background sync and stop using Emby today... maybe that will let sync finish.

Will come back here tomorrow morning.

Ok I tested it and it was fine. Don't start the sync manually. Just let it happen on its own

OK. My Android background sync schedule has already passed and sync is happening. This time I don't have Emby Webclient opened... and I'm not Managing Emby at all.

Looking at Linux opened processes, I can read that Emby's process has one of the sync media opened in filesystem, so that's how I'll peek whether Emby is syncing or not.

Different tests I can see that can be done about those issues:

1. Suspect Docker as culprit and install Emby directly in my Linux Server (OMV NAS).

2. Suspect Android API as culprit and change sync to internal storage

Nothing to do with either of those actually.

Luke, is it possible that more than one thread of sync is working at the same time?

5 min ago I was looking and there was only 1 file being synced at a time... now there are 2 at the same time. I guess that's not expected.

No, the sync service is marked as parallel not allowed.

I don't know how well you can read Linux, but look at this:

i think monitoring from the app side is better.

Don't underestimate Linux.

ps: my attachment doesn't match exactly with the 3 items in sync in the text above because at every file synced... another random item is synced.

It's very random, to tell the truth.

Well it's good that we're here because i am ready to finally overhaul the in-app sync experience. i have been looking at google music as inspiration. I've noticed they don't even have a manual sync button because everything just starts immediately. so i think that's the model that i like.

Ok but I'm not running manual sync... the auto sync from Android that is doing the job now   :-(((   so much for my guess...

Maybe every time Android auto-sync available accounts... Emby thinks "Hey... time to sync again!" , and nobody stops him!  :-(

CONFIRMED

Reading Android config, saw that Android Background Sync ran it's 3rd auto-sync at 11:58pm, just before my post were I told the 3rd parallel was created

When reached 4th parallel (by 00:30h) , It crashed sync and all Emby syncs went back to Queue.

Now it's auto-syncing again and I manually disabled Android background sync, so hopefully won't be creating new threads soon...

Every 30min an Android Background auto-sync is executed... it's something to think..

If the "new sync experience" starts the copy immediately right after creation... would be cool hehe

ps: hey... just noticed that since the first days of testing.... really the crashes happened (or not) at every 1/2 hour... so exactly when Android tries another round of background sync.

@@Luke, it's late here, but I had to stay awake to close the tests.

Everything synced (after all that hard work above), passing thru several restarts (all via auto-sync from Android).

I tried to play all of the synced media... but NOTHING that is synced can be played. The files are in folders and can be player externally using VLC, but not from inside Emby.

Tired. Almost 2:00AM here. See you tomorrow.
