Live TV (mpeg 2) = Smooth, low CPU | Recordings (mpeg 2) = High CPU

Greetings,

My apologies if this is not the correct thread to post this question:

Looking for an understanding - When I play Live TV (mpeg 2 stream) through the web interface (any platform) via HDHomeRun Extend HW (No Transcoding), Live TV is smooth, very low CPU utilization. When I then record the same video stream (without Emby transcoding), the resulting mpeg 2 file pegs the CPU at 95-100%. Yet... when I use the same HDHomeRun HW with Myth TV instead, it records the same mpeg file (again, no transcoding), but playback does not result in a CPU spike to ~100%.

I am looking to better understand why the Live TV stream requires no transcoding (and little CPU overhead), but a recorded file requires transcoding and High CPU utilization - where when I use Myth TV to record and watch back (via Apple TV), there is little CPU overhead.

TIA.
