Yes, I'm on a stick. Let me get back home and I'll get you all of the transcode logs. I sent logs for a 2-3 things, actually, so I hope I didn't confuse things with the wrong log file from the firestick emby app.

I don't want all the transcode logs because I won't know what I'm looking at.

If you could please just cause the problem and send that transcode log that will be very helpful.  Thanks.

So ebr, I don't post many transcode logs...but I have *several* transcode logs from the recent play I attempted with the subtitle change:

[root@ifrit logs]# ls -lah | grep "May 25"

Oh, also, the server-log was 25 megs...so I trimmed out everything prior to when I started playing the content.

Hopefully that's not a big deal..if you want the whole thing I can try to get it to you some other way.

Can you please do a test. Navigate to

/var/lib/emby-server/ffmpeg/20160215

Then unzip the attached file into that directory and try again. After unzipping there should be a fonts sub-folder. let me know if it makes any difference. thanks.

Luke, the zip you gave me included a single font (ARIALUNI.TTF) and fonts.conf file.  The ARIALUNI.TTF file was identical to the one I already had (same matched sha1sum).  The config file was different, but only because the one you gave me was intended for a windows systems:

# diff fonts/fonts.conf tmp/fonts/fonts.conf

1c1

< <?xml version="1.0"?><fontconfig><dir>/var/lib/emby-server/ffmpeg/20160215/fonts</dir><alias><family>Arial</family><prefer>Arial Unicode MS</prefer></alias></fontconfig>

\ No newline at end of file

---

I can go ahead and put that config file in it's place if that's what you intended?

ok, if it's already there, nevermind. perhaps instead try removing it.

I've sent a couple of logs (user tako). Don't know if they got properly sent because everytime I had to go in and back out of the apps settings otherwise the send logs button wouldn't show.

Do I need to post the server and transcode logs too?

No, but doesn't the android app use the same file? Only the aftv is having subtitle issues.

I can't remove the file untold Monday and than it's another week until I can actually yesterday.

There isn't anything in the logs?

I haven't yet, but I will as soon as I have a chance...busy week at work and daughter's last day of kindergarten...not that you need my life story. I'll try and do it tonight

Ok, I removed the font and the problem persists. I removed the config file as well, and still exists. To be sure, I restarted the emby server process each time.

Submitted another 4 logs (same user as before). Didn't try removing the font as I don't have access to the server but going by waverly360's comments doing so doesn't solve the problem.

So this is only when the server is burning in .ass subs, correct? Can someone provide a sample file for testing? Thanks.

Ponyo

No, all types of subs. Most of the logs I submitted have srt subs.

I still don't see any errors in the app logs from the video player.

Just to confirm exactly what is happening - nothing is "crashing" correct?  The app remains responsive and you can back out of the video.  It is just that the video does not play back properly...

Also, transcodes work okay as long as subs aren't being burned in?

That is correct. Without subs the same files are transcoded without any problems.

When selecting subs the player doesn't crash, I can still back out of it.

After selecting subs the player continuously shows the loading circle and keeps skipping between what looks like the last frame rendered and the frame before that until I back out of the player. Didn't try and see what happens if I leave it like that for a long time.

Luke, I'm out of ideas on the app side here.  The player doesn't appear to be throwing any errors but it obviously doesn't like something about the stream it is receiving - or the stream is actually getting garbled on the transcode...

well let's start with srt since that is easier to track down then .ass.

These logs here have some srt examples:

http://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/35098-subtitles-causing-playback-to-not-work-on-firetv-stick/?p=331407

So what we need is a new example with both a working and non-working transcode log. The "non-working" one appears to just be a regular transcode. I say regular because the app downloads the subtitles separately, they're not handled as part of the video transcode. If it's just a regular transcode, then the ffmpeg command line should be more or less identical to the working scenario.

So let's get transcode logs of both of those, using the same video for testing. Thanks.

I think I have found the issue and I will get an update out as soon as possible.

Thanks for your patience.
