theusedversion 36 Posted May 16, 2016 Posted May 16, 2016 Would love the ability to have an extended search function that will scan the additional categories listed in the title. Maybe even include character names of the cast as well. I found myself wanting to watch a movie that takes place in Russia and wish I could do a search for Russia to bring up any movies that have this as a keyword or included in the plot somewhere. Many of my movies already come with plot keywords so it's an underutilized part of the metadata as far as I can tell. If this ability is already in Emby and I have somehow missed it, please close the topic. 6 1
jeffshead 3 Posted August 1, 2016 Posted August 1, 2016 (edited) I'm surprised this functionality is missing. I was wondering why I could not find some movies. Perfect example below: Movie Titles: Raiders of the Lost Arc (1981) Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984) Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989) Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (2008) Search for "indiana" and the first movie in the list above is missing from the results! Hope this functionality is added soon. What does Emby use tags for if they are not being searched? Edited August 1, 2016 by jeffshead
Luke 38491 Posted August 1, 2016 Posted August 1, 2016 They will be incorporated into search in a future release. Thanks.

sydlexius 253 Posted August 2, 2016 Posted August 2, 2016 It would be awesome if this could be further extended to index the subtitles as well!
Ruslan_KRYSHYN 1 Posted September 24 Posted September 24 It would be great if advanced search was implemented. It would be very convenient for us as well. We are very much waiting. Thank you in advance. 1
visproduction 174 Posted September 26 Posted September 26 (edited) Advanced search inside descriptions to find alternate names, may take too long to be practical for many user's hardware. What words might be missing in the description? Is the original title listed? If you want to include character names, that should probably be an option because this search could take a long time. If you are Google or Bing, advanced search is expected, but it still takes a lot of server power to make it happen fast. How happy would a user be if the average system takes an additional 100 seconds to advance search? It's very tricky to make advance searches happen quickly. The big search engines have huge amount of cached searches available on instant recall. This is something you cannot offer with a private media server. It might not ever be fast enough for users, who tend to call it broken, if it takes more than 5 seconds. Advanced search is easy to ask for, but hard to do. Well written explanation on this: https://ahrefs.com/blog/google-search-algorithm/ I add tags and collection plot types which gives you tag links and collection image posters on media pages. It's not automated, but it does make more advanced searches eaiser and it works now! Everyone seems to want it all done automatically. I think setting up collections and tags is more fun and looks nice. Edited September 26 by visproduction

If you add in Metadata editor / Original title / Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark then your search for 'Indiana' will also find the first film in the series.
