pmcd 0 Posted April 9, 2016 Posted April 9, 2016 (edited) Would it be possible for Emby to support transmuxing of streams? That is, changing a container without having to transcode the streams? Plex calls this Direct Streaming as opposed to Direct Play. This would make the Apple TV 4 work wonders with the Emby app. The resources required to transmux are far less than a full transcode. Luke 39365 Posted April 9, 2016 Posted April 9, 2016 Hi, yes, some apps do this already, and the next server release will improve this even more: http://emby.media/community/index.php?/blog/1/entry-296-new-emby-server-releases/ We haven't yet brought it to apple tv though.
pmcd 0 Posted April 10, 2016 Author Posted April 10, 2016 Sounds great. Is there a list of which apps support this? For example Fire TV, Android, etc ...? It would be great to have this for iOS and tvOS! For what it's worth Plex has this already but of course you have other features that are very neat. Am currently a lifetime Plex Pass member but am very interested in Emby. I have it running on a QNAP TS-251+ . Unfortunately, it uses too many resources when playing to the ATV 4. Far fewer when playing to a Fire TV.
Luke 39365 Posted April 10, 2016 Posted April 10, 2016 in the new beta server, pretty much every app has it now except for apple tv, fire tv, and ios.
ebr 15549 Posted April 10, 2016 Posted April 10, 2016 The Fire TV beta does but that app also doesn't need to transcode that much. Apple TV needs to transcode anything not in Apple format (mp4/mv4).
