SSL Certificate Problems

Using StartSSL.com I was able to make a free certificate and it works well accessing my qnap remotely.  Using the StartSSL.com wizard I created a pfx (.p12), but I can't get the cert to work in Emby.

If I delete my cert path to allow it to make a self-signed cert, I can access Emby remotely with a web browser (emby.my-domain-example.com:8920) with the expected self-signed cert warning prompt.  But I have the following problems:

  • Using the self-signed cert none of my Emby mobile apps will connect.
  • http://app.emby.media/ can't connect to my Emby server

Any ideas?

the self signed cert requires a lot of work in all the emby apps. We're going to be revamping our SSL support soon and switching to something along the lines of LetsEncrypt.

That's good to know. I was trying ssl (self signed or ca signed) because when my wife was at the hospital, Emby was blocked on their wifi. We could use Netflix, but no Emby. Was hoping to overcome the blocks with ssl should we be in a location again that blocks Emby.
