Advice on why nearly everything is transcoded over wifi

Just wan't to know how does server determine whether it transcodes or not for some reason the only files that it doesn't transcode on my mobile is h.264 files wtv and dvr-ms and other files all get transcoded.

 

I am connected over wifi n so it should have enough speed. It is fairly old phone xperia Z so not sure is that cause.

 

I am planning to purchase a new phone and android tablet in few months is there something to look out for so the server doesn't transcode.

Thanks, this info helped me out on my playback problems when transcoding.  Been using MB for many years, but still learn something all the time browsing the forums.
