External Subs problem (Panasonic TX-48AS640)

I have a Panasonic TX-48AS640.

After alot of trial and error and tinkering with the provided Panasonic profile and other settings found in the forums, I made a new custom profile that works for all movies.

I do however have the biggest problem with external subtitles. No matter what setting/profiles I select, I get NO subtitles in movies on the TV. On the web interface subtitles play fine.

I made sure the profile is in use, I tried with Default/Always use subtitles/Forced, no difference.

Can someone help?

the external delivery method you've added to the profile means that the subtitles will be listed separately in didl responses for the tv to download separately from the video. so you need to make sure the tv supports that. You can also just remove all of those subtitles profiles and the server will just burn them in

If I remove all those, every movie file that has an .srt in the folder is transcoded to MPEG2-TS and it's not playable. It says wait.. and skip to next and so on.

Hmm... any other fix?

From what I gathered after some testing, my TV can play all tested MKV's natively (H264 level 4.1, 4.2, 5.1) - with a few exceptions I will disscuss below - and supports MKV embedded (SubRip/SRT) subtitles, as well as external (.srt).
It seems it CANT read/decode embedded (HDMV/PGS) image subtitles as reported by mkvmerge.

After further investigation and having a few MKV's that aren't playable (they stutter), my best bet was that MKV's files that have 10 and above ReFrames (reference frames) can't be played (they stutter, unplayable), so it must be TV chip/buffer problem. I ruled out internet (tried it wired and with wifi on 5Ghz network with powerful highend Asus modem and powerful PC - i7 4970k processor).

My conclusion is that these files can't be solved with a profile, so I would avoid them in the future.
I did however manage to make these files playabe by reencoding them in Handbrake with lower reframes. They worked flawlessly afterwards.

For the AUDIO of the files, after testing, my TV supports DTS and also DTS-HD sound natively, it only needs remuxing/transcoding for TrueHD audio. I didn't test FLAC.

What I tested so far, AVI files with the following codecs CAN be played natively and I confirm that external subtitles work - XVID, WMV3, H264.

What CAN'T be played natively (File not supported message): AVI with DX50,DIV3,DIV5,DIVX,H263. These need transcoding. But since most of them are FourCC how can I make a rule in the profile for these?

Anyway, I sorted the transcoding issue, so most of my files are played natively by increasing the bitrate limit in the profile.

Now the big issue remains:
No matter if a file is transcoded or not (MKV or AVI tested so far), no external subtitles can be loaded. They can only be burned in. Is there any resolution for this problem?

I also checked with the closed caption button on my remote (in my case STTL button which toggles a message onscreen "Subtitles ON/OFF" without any effect) as well as the OPTION button which shows "No Subtitle".
