Just one of the many little problems the SP4 has at the moment

I like it... and I'm sticking with it... but I really wish I could just go to Microsoft and slap the engineering team one by one. There are so many obvious and brutal bugs with this thing, I don't get it. How do you eff something up this bad? I have a Lumia950 and it has similar schizophrenic problems, like plugging in or unplugging the headphones while audio is playing will cause all kinds of crazy nonsense to happen, including dropping the call you're on and also being unable to play audio files until you reboot. Madness.

I haven't run into a file yet that hasn't transcoded, btw... but most of my media are all ripped the same way. Oh, and it seems subtitles are working again, so no idea what happened there. This is in the web client, though... I haven't gone back to the emby app since the last time I used it because the stuttering and dropped frames were aggravating me.

Is that because all your media using DTS? Does it transcode in other clients? Can you please check if your videos have media info on the server.

Yeh I know right. It's freaking baffling how this thing passed any kind of quality control. Sometimes I can't even turn it on without first removing the cover. Even when typing this post the external screen disconnects and reconnects. What the F@%&

I think this is one wicked machine and I've had every Surface (except the PRO 1) and the SP4 is hands done the best expect for these niggling issues.

Their engineering team should be medicated heavily. What the hell is Panos doing.

Yeah, most if not all of my media is DTS. I haven't found one yet that isn't.

Does it transcode in other clients?

The only clients I have access to on my SP4 is the official emby client and the emby web client. All the other emby clients on my other machines work just fine. It began transcoding everything on my SP4 only after I disabled hardware acceleration in the audio panel. Before that, it direct played the stuff that did play.

Not sure what you mean. You mean media info on the movie info page? If so, then... yes, of course they do.

Just asking about the media info on the server because I recently ran into a bug that caused all my files to transcode as they were missing.

To answer your DTS question, I watched a movie last night that was MPEG4 AC3 5.1 and it still transcoded... so, yeah. With hardware acceleration turned off, everything transcodes. Not just DTS.

What files container?  If MKV then it isn't a directplay option.

   <DirectPlayProfile container="mkv" audioCodec="aac,ac3,eac3,mp3,mp2,pcm,pcm_s16le,pcm_s24le" videoCodec="h264,hevc" type="Video" />

Oh, I don't know. I deleted it, sorry. It was probably an MKV though.

Hmm mines not doing that. I'm only getting transcoding from DTS so far. I don't think it's related t the hw acceleration setting.

This is the media info stuff I was talking about. Can you check that all your videos that you're testing with have this on the server.

Yeah, they all have media info, as I said.

So with sync now working, videos synced with DTS audio fail to play. I'm also still getting the choppy playback issue at the start. I don't think it's related to bandwidth, more or a video driver issue. I'll do some digging today.

What setting are those?

Connected with https fine, the only issue I see is the app has to be configured or it will attempt to direct play and my upload speed can't handle that so I get constant buffering on a 5.3MB bitrate movie.

seems to be worse with https ...   I use the same https host and port as android app which works flawlessly. I am using a trusted certificate.

i am connecting fine .. it stops working when trying to play a video... same problem on my Surface pro 3 and my sisters surface pro 4

i have a 100 down 40 up  Fibre connection. I stream fine to 5 people at once with android and browser

i bought the app to have a better touch experience with the surfaces...  but bad so far.. first no https support and now  there is but playback issues.
