Would it be possible to add subliminal support? I would use nzbget but sonarr doesn't move subtitles, so I am forced to use the plex addon. I am trying to move away from plex.

Plex forum post - https://forums.plex.tv/index.php/topic/96350-release-subliminal-subtitles-addic7ed-podnapisi-opensubtitles/

This would be much appreciated!

Emby's server can already search and download subtitles from opensubtitle.org. I am sure others can be added over time.

In the dashboard to go Metadata -> Subtitles.

Yes I realize this, but addicted has much higher quality subtitles and is a good source. I know they don't have an API but this addon would take care of the scraping.

As a general rule we don't support web scraping for content as this is considered illegal in most contexts.

Interesting - even if the subliminal plugin already supports it? Thanks for the reply.

What subliminal plug-in?

What subliminal plug-in?

I meant the plugin here: https://github.com/Diaoul/subliminal

Obviously there isn't an emby plugin, would be nice though. Maybe plugin was the wrong word? Python library I guess.

Hey @@ebr, I agree with ice pube.

Subliminal is a fantastic tool for subtitle downloading, and using it as a 3rd party inside Emby structure would avoid Emby's own specific-needs-mantaining-subtitle-downloader.

Please reconsider, and talk with Luke if you agree, too.

Raise a post on the Sonarr forums to have subtitles moved.

I second this request.

Addic7ed has better subtitles for me than Opensubtitles.

It should be trivial to implement this in Emby. I could make a cronjob for executing subliminal but if Emby can do it as well, why not?

I'm also genuinely surprised there isn't a way to just grab all the subtitles in the world and run it as a local database. For today's standards we're talking peanuts in terms of data amount. Then all Emby or w/e would have to do is hook into that.

I agree, this would be very helpful. In the meantime, I will turn off subtitle downloading and try out subliminal separately. It's a shame that Emby does not support this yet.

The next release of emby server adds subdb as another downloader.

Do they have an api?

Addic7ed has the most quality subtitles of all providers talked here. Shame that api does not exist. OpenSubtitles cant be compared at all to Addic7ed.

What about the combination of OpenSubtitles & Subdb?

I will do a Tutorial on how to set up subliminal on Windows Linux and NAS, I haven't had a chance. I been using Subliminal and have it set to automatically download subtitles.

Subliminal supports i think 7 subtitle providers? We have OpenSubtitles and SubDb. Which provider should we look at next?

The best thing to do is a poll thread, and you can add them in the order as they get requested, I will say Subscene, but I know some will say other providers:

  • Addic7ed
  • LegendasTV
  • NapiProjekt
  • OpenSubtitles - Supported by emby
  • Podnapisi
  • Shooter
  • TheSubDB - Suppoted by emby
  • TvSubtitles
  • Subscene

This seems like a good list!

A general remark: I think it would be helpful if subtitles got their own category within the plugins section (instead of being part of metadata) AND if the filter on top would allow selection of those categories (either single or multi option). :)

Hi, yes we can add a subtitles category. That's a good idea, thanks.

I'd like support for subscene as well.

Do they have an api? I think we looked at that one before.
