Long delay opening TV Collection

Ebr, I also just noticed last night that I am experiencing this delay moving to the TV collection in Emby Classic (I'm on the latest beta build, 267 or something?). I don't use it as much for TV so I'm not as helpful in telling when this started but last time I played TV content (probably on 262 or before) this definitely didn't happen. Now every time I load Emby Classic and move to the TV collection there is about a 1 minute delay where it's unresponsive and I have to wait it out (and trying to move will prompt WMC to give you the unresponding dialog)

What theme and you need to try the dev release.

Using Square. I'll try the dev build this afternoon and report back.

Okay, well Square is likely doing all sorts of things that were designed when the library was self-contained on the same machine.  I'd test with Chocolate and also post a log from when this happens to you with Square and I'll see if I can spot anything.

Not sure that Square is doing a lot of bad things really. It was built specifically for MB3 but I don't know how much legacy code was reused in it (from the sound at development time I don't think much).

Will do the testing after work.

Just wanted to pitch in here. We just setup one of the new Intel Compute Sticks in the living room and also experience the same issues everyone else is posting here. We strictly use Chocolate as the theme. Theme music and videos do not play on Emby for WMC but work fine on Theater. I chalked up the delay as an issue with it trying to load a theme song or video and waiting to time out before it entered the show or movies folder.

I will try the Dev. release as suggested by ebr and report back here with my findings. Glad to just see we are not the only ones and that the issue is something being actively worked on. If anything is needed from me let me know and i'll provide whatever I can. Thanks for all the hard work!

So, this is going to annoy and be useless all at the same time.

I tested 269 again today before updating to 272 and there was a very small delay going to TV (maybe 10 seconds). I did it 3 times and it was always the same (exited Emby and restarted it each time). Last night it was definitely over a minute and I did it 2 or 3 times last night always the same.

Then I installed 272 and tested 3 times. Every time there was no noticeable delay going to TV. But since the super long delay wasn't there today on 269 I don't know. 272 is definitely faster at least.

I looked at the logs and there is nothing shown having a long delay. What looks to have the only sort of long delay in the log is here:

That's about a 40 second gap after it checks for updates. The first thing I do when I opened Emby was scroll to TV.

Here is another log from last night (different time opening Emby) that had the long delay switching to TV. Log is similar:

I am also attaching a full log in case there is something else there that you would be able to find.

In the 272 log I am not seeing the message about MB Classic being up to date. Has that been the culprit?

Btw, did something change in the installer in 272? This was the first time I have ever had it NOT ask for admin privileges to install an update! Good job!!

lol, it just happened to me again. Now one thing I realized that was different (at least for me) between my tests that had no delay and the tests with delay was that I logged in an additional person on every test where there was a delay. Maybe that's the culprit?

Attached is the log of 272 with the delay.

Just a quick update from my side.

I tried it with chocolate and didn't experience any delays.

In conclusion, if you stick with the older version of the client then Subdued works without a problem. The newer version of the client has delays when using subdued.

Server version does not seem to make any difference as all tests done on latest (stable) release build.

Please try 273.  It may help some but I'm still not convinced it will completely solve this issue for all as some of you are just getting time outs trying to retrieve the content of your TV folders.

273 seems to have fixed the delay for me at least. I no longer have any delay after adding an additional user and then immediately switching to the TV collection.

Yes, I expected your situation to be solved by this but not sure it will help solidarius.  Thanks for confirming.

Yeah, I can still confirm lockups in the TV area, even on 273.

That is using Chocolate, right?

That is correct.  All I've ever used :)

273 appears to be running like a champ here. No delay when entering shows or movies. For some reason theme videos and music still don't work but do in Theater.

Log?

Are you sure you have the option turned on?

The options are enabled. I will see if I can't get you a log when I get home from work today. Thanks!

Here's a log I just captured tonight. Loaded up Emby for WMC and just clicked on a TV show I know has a background video. Seems strange they play fine in Theater but not on the WMC.

How long did you wait before backing out or capturing the log?  The last two lines appear to be attempting to play the theme.

2015-06-02 21:10:05.9700,Debug,,Setting now playing status to True,1,Application
2015-06-02 21:10:07.1405,Debug,,Environment property changed - hooking transport,1,Application

It is possible your theme media is in a format that wmc cannot play...

I'm having the same issue since a few days now. When I select a serie with multiple seasons it takes more than a minute to open the serie. Also after deleting an item it takes way longer then before until I can go on selecting something else.

i too feel like i may be seeing this.. im on 273 but i need to be a proper tester and give ebr some more details.

for me "colloquially" i see it on the 2nd show i try to go into... i enter tv series.. i pick a show.. its fine..even if multiple seasons... then i back out and choose another show.. and i hit the delay i'm seeing..

hopefully this post reminds me to get the details and do some basic tshooting when i get home.

Heula - please try the dev version and also please try testing with Chocolate.

I think what has happened here is the stability improvements for extenders have forced some things to run not in the background that were before so some themes/situations are having problems with that.

Glad to hear it sounds like you have some idea of what introduced the issues.  Thanks for all your hard work!

I'm running .273 (chocolate) and still get the delay.  I click on the series and hear the theme music play but have to wait around 30 seconds before it enters the series.

I notice that it only happens the first time I go into a series, or (I think) when I've added a new episode.

I only installed .273 last night so I haven't had good play with it yet.
