For about 2 weeks now, shows just randomly freeze. I can stop it and restart it again, moving the slider to where I was - this sometimes works, but often the app will just freeze on a black screen. I've noticed that when a show freezes, the android app will be flicking between play/pause, changing every second. I just tested the chromecast speed and getting 26/18, no issues with the test. Here are all the logs from trying to watch Gotham tonight. Thats exactly what's been going on with me as well, even the play pause switching back and forth, its like emby server just suddenly stops talking to the chromecast. JeremyFr79 228 Posted April 24, 2015 Share Posted April 24, 2015 Ok, so I dropped the bitrate from 6Mbps to 4Mbps last night and watched several episodes of a show. It seemed to work much better doing this. But I don't see that as a fix as I used to be able to stream 10Mbps to chromecast just fine from Emby, and my CC does just fine with higher bitrates from other sources. jubbynox 0 Posted April 24, 2015 Share Posted April 24, 2015 Hi, I have been experiencing this problem, too, when casting from the MediaBrowser iPad app. Changing the bitrate in the settings doesn't seem to have any effect on the quality, nor does it solve the problem. Interestingly, if I use a Chromecast enabled browser on the iPad, e.g. CastNow browser, and navigate to the Emby web client, then casting a stream works perfectly at high bitrates. It would appear that the issue is something to do with Emby transcoding specifically for Chromecast; whereas if you cast a stream that is intended for the iPad UIWebView then everything is OK. Is it possible to make Emby use the same transcoding for Chromecast as it does for the iPad web client? If I had the time, I would create an iOS app that is essentially a WKWebView (this will restrict the app to iOS 8+), and then register a WKUserContentController in order to bridge the gap between the JavaScript Chromecast API and the iOS native Chromecast API. It got better with some updates, and videos only crashed a few seconds before the end, but with the latest update I'm back with even more frustrating freezes and crashes. Tried a lot of tweaking with CC, throttling and capping streaming bitrate ; the issues are never the same but they persist. Here are the logs, if it can help. With about 45 seconds left, goes to black screen. On the android app, it shows it playing from beginning but nothing but black on the TV. I can stop it and drag the slider to where it was, plays about 10 seconds farther than it did, then black screen again. I experience major freezes, the video is jumping between frames without sound, and sometimes goes back playing for a few seconds before freezing again... Sometimes the screen just goes black and remote control on the server becomes unresponsive. This time it remained active. I tried the same clip that always skipped and locked up at the same spots (3 to 4 times within the first minute), and now it works perfectly fine. I had been able to work around by dropping the bit rate to 2.6, but was able to play without issues at 10 and 20 Mbit today. SilentException 6 Posted May 14, 2015 Share Posted May 14, 2015 Same here, Playback on CC always ends before 100%. Using latest Beta Emby server. From logs I would say that when transcoding job finishes, it deletes the files and the playback stalls. Not sure, logs are now too huge to post, I will do clean logs when home.
