Boredcat 34 Posted March 24, 2015 Posted March 24, 2015 I am using a very low power CPU system (N40L) to run EMBY. Which is not able to do any kind of transcoding for synch without effecting to overall performance of the system (system comes to a almost standstill). Therefore I was thinking of offloading of synch tasks to a more powerful system, In which the powerful system has some kind of agent which connects to the EMBY server and check if there are synch jobs, if so the powerful system executes the synch job. After completing this job it informs the EMBY server.. 5
Deathsquirrel 744 Posted March 24, 2015 Posted March 24, 2015 Why not run the server on the more powerful system to begin with? Just use your low-power system as a client.

There are a million and one different ways he could do it, but should we give the end users the ability to choose their approach? The one cool thing one could do with this approach is that in theory, you could have a couple of machines transcoding, set thresholds, etc. Hell, if someone would be willing to do the work, you could configure multiple "potential transcoding hosts" on your home network, and use the ones that are most underutilized. In it's basic form it's a great add on, and more so it has even bigger potential. What happens if you are transcoding on your MB3 server and one ffmpeg process goes crazy? At that point you could potentially lock up the whole web interface, leaving you unable to restart without rdp'ing into the host.
Vidman 590 Posted March 25, 2015 Posted March 25, 2015 I believe @@cayars already has a plan/idea for this discussed in one of the throttling threads 1

Electricty bill My server is a low powered Celeron sitting under the TV. But I'd like to offload the work to my gaming machine which I only switch on when I want to play a game, or convert some media for my Tablet.
Boredcat 34 Posted March 25, 2015 Author Posted March 25, 2015 The Electricty bil is one reason for the N40L, there are more but I will discuss this here. Of course I could go for a more powerful server, that will solve my issue. But there are more users with low power machines, such as Synology NAS, which are perfect capable of running EMBY but encoding a video .. probably not. I will have a look at the throttling threads
