MB Classic Client Alternatives

I currently have the MB Classic client installed on a windows PC connected directly to my TV using a media center remote, which works great.

I am now looking for an alternative to using a PC connected to my TV, any suggestions?

 

I have tried chromecast and Xbox One which work great, but streaming to my TV is not what I am after. I would like the full MB Classic experience on the TV as you have when using MB Classic on a PC.

 

I know the Samsung TV app is in testing at the moment and will be the answer to my issue, just not sure if there are any other alternatives that I am not aware of?

 

Any help would be appreciated.

yeah I did see that not sure it will be available to me as I have a Samsung TV, so im guessing my only alternative at this point is a TV app to replace my PC?

If it absolutely must be nothing but the TV, then yes but there are other alternatives if you are willing to have another small component (Roku, Nexus Player, etc.).

Why not get a NUC if size is an issue. You can hide it away in a cupboard if it needs to be out of sight. You could even attach it to the back of your TV (if you have an IR extender) e.g:

Thanks for everyone's input and clarification.

 

I do enjoy the MB experience and am just wanting to know what options there are for MBC if you do not want to use a computer.

 

So should I want to eliminate the PC all together I will need to wait for a TV app, or replace my PC with a smaller device as you advised such as Roku, Nexus Player or a NUC.

I've been using successfully for several months.

 

It may still be in beta, but most of the apps are in beta for one reason or another, but it works.

 

So much so, that I no longer use MBC as my primary MB device.

Yeah I would love to but I believe my Samsung TV just missed out and is to old for the app, it also doesn't work on Samsung home theatre systems which I have.

 

So looks like i'm out of luck and will either need a new TV or another smaller device

I got a NUC a few weeks ago to replace my 6-year old HTPC. Great little solution. IR receiver included and everything. Super quiet.

 

The one issue I'm having is with the far-too-clever HDMI port that shuts off the sound and sometimes even the picture when it wakes up from sleep if it doesn't "see" anything at the other end of the cable, mostly my receiver hasn't woken up yet.

 

I've been battling with this issue for a bit. I've ordered a Dr. HDMI which most likely will solve the problem.

My NUC is also my server - so it's often on when my receiver and TV are off. I rarely have any problems with sound or picture when turning on the TV and receiver to watch something.

 

I use a Harmony remote and IRC it sends power-on commands to the TV and receiver first before the NUC, maybe that helps.

I have tried that with my Harmony. Reordered startup to power up TV and receiver first. This has inexplicably led to the NUC not showing any display at all. Very weird. We'll see how it goes with Dr. HDMI.
