CA: Add multiple folders to a single profile

It would be nice if instead of having the limit of 1 profile = 1 directory (and it's children), that we could add multiple directories to the same profile. For instance I have my movies spread across 2 separate volumes on my NAS, so they are in two different locations. At the moment you have to setup the same settings multiple times for each directory. Would be nice to just say, these 2 directories use the same profile and only set it up once. Thanks.

I don't think that will happen anytime soon.  However, you should be able to ease the setup requirements by using the default profile for your movies and then setting up only special profiles for the areas you need them.

Yeah I think even that wouldn't be any better because of TV series, etc. mixed in are spread across a lot of folders. No big deal. It is working now, just was thinking of a way to simplify it for the user. Thanks.

Explain your setup to me.  There are separate settings for movies, series, episodes, etc. so really very few people should need multiple profiles.  What are you using the profiles for?

Just using it to force all video file types to either be DVD or Blu-ray.

So my

\\server\movies\hd

\\server\movies2\hd

set to bluray

\\server\movies\dvd

set to dvd

but still have

\\server\tv\continuing

\\server\tv\animation

\\server\tv\ended

\\server\tv2\continuing

Do your HD and SD items have different codecs? If so you cam probably use a single profile and just map the covers.

Yeah there will be a mix. They are all direct rips from the disc.

Okay, then I would set it up with the single default profile and set all your TV and other stuff how you want.  Then, choose the movie style you want and go to "Specific Covers".  In there, map all the sd codecs to the DVD case and all the HD codecs to the BD case.  OR choose "Cover by Definition" and then just map the HD case to BD and the SD case to DVD.

That should do it all for you.

My library is set up similar to yours, and what ebr suggested is what I do.  I have profiles set up for movies and blu-rays.

For movies, I want them to show up as dvd, so I mapped the codecs I used to DVD.

For blu-rays, I told it to use the definition type and mapped HD to Blu-Ray.

Gthrift - unless you are using different case styles for your HD vs SD, you shouldn't even need the two profiles.

I tried that, but I kept running into an issue with a movie or two that are HD but were getting the DVD treatment.

That really wouldn't work though because you are going to have overlap between SD and HD. I have it working now, just had to redo the setup 4 or so times to get it working. Just was hoping to make it easier on others by grouping multiple folders to one profile. No big deal. Thanks.

I don't understand - overlap, how?

Well I think they might overlap. The codec that is. Maybe they don't. Looking through them now. Are blurays ever mpeg2video? That seems to be what all my DVD's I've checked so far are.

No, BluRays will be h264 (mpeg4) or VC1.  DVDs will be h262 (mpeg2).

But, you could also use my second suggestion and use cover by definition.  That would be an even simpler setup.

Yeah that is what I'm trying now and it seems like it is working. Thanks.

One thing though. Is there any way to force refresh a cover? One of my items hadn't properly scanned so it didn't have any media information (no video type or size) so it just made the cover art be a blank black top. I refreshed the item and fixed the media info scan, but there is no way to refresh the cover art treatment.
