ecrispy 24 Posted December 6, 2014 Posted December 6, 2014 I just got a Fire stick and would be very interested in running this to access my MB3 server. I saw some instructions on getting XBMC installed, wanted to see if anyone else has tried it out.
ecrispy 24 Posted December 6, 2014 Author Posted December 6, 2014 Yes, I'm going to give it a go and report back.
xnappo 1608 Posted December 6, 2014 Posted December 6, 2014 It works on the normal Fire TV - so I suspect it will work.
jhoff80 93 Posted December 6, 2014 Posted December 6, 2014 It does work. I only played a little but the UI was a little slow. I assume it's faster on the 'full' Fire TV.
ecrispy 24 Posted December 7, 2014 Author Posted December 7, 2014 As I understand it FireTv can play back most media without transcoding. On XBMC forums people are reporting that 1080p plays fine on the stick, but 720p doesn't, which is really very weird.

The lack of transcoding is probably more to do with the fact that XBMC uses a custom player and nothing to do with the Fire TV's native codec support. It's my understanding that the Fire TV is almost as limited as other Android devices when using the stock Android player. Only difference being it supposedly supports Dolby Digital Plus.
