Making The Switch To The Android App From The Android TV App.

I have recently made the switch to the Android App on my television. It does take a little longer to start, but then again so do I these days. Other than that after learning the details on configuration of the Home Screen I have found it to be far more configurable than the Android TV version. I can put far more valid content on the initial home screen now. (This is according to my preferences in my narcissistic world of media entertainment which I am very content with now that the Emby programming Team have decided they should make changes to the App for me exclusively!)  Um ahem...)  All this aside it sure looks great up on the big screen! The Live TV sure works smoother with less hangs. The graphics scalability is far greater. I can makes things so small that I can't see it without effort. This is of course what I choose as my default as I refuse to accept that I am getting older and that my vision is a limitation. Thanks for all the hard work Emby team! I am enjoying having so much content that I have time now to read a book.

Sincerely,

Jack

P.S. All joking aside, thank you very much. I am really enjoying Emby as is my dear Wife.

@Luke

I also have made the switch but still miss some ATV features.

Is it possible to have the "long press" centre button to bring up/dismiss stats for needs?

This has already been added to the latest Android version. You will need to side load it for now until the Play Store catches up.

Skip forward for the ad's while playing a currently recording show is still not there last time I looked.

This is what we do every night for the news.

Thats the only thing holding me back.

Hi there, what makes you think it isn't there? Where are you looking for it?

To prove this again, I just started something recording......

Tested the Android TV app first - Clicked play

Pressed right click on remote and instant skip as per the skip settings in the app (literally instant).

Then flipped to the android app, the same right button (on the disk - this is a TCP Android TV).

A bar comes up on the bottom and no skip seen, I click it again - it moves the dot to the right - but nothing has skipped, the dot just goes back to where it way.  No amount of pressing the button can get any skipping..

If there is a different process, let me know.

Note - I just did the same on a finished recording and it all works as it should - i.e each click of the button goes forward and plays from there - 7 clicks goes 7 'bits' forward (simulating add skip).

Did you first enable the option to force a conversion of mpegts in the new app?

Hi Sean,  nope, I never did that.  That setting I assumed was going to transcode.

I just enabled that setting, and set a recording going.  Waited a few mins, then played it, and skip forward……. Now works.

Its a bit slower and ‘clunkier’ than the current androidTV (that ma be just my perception of what I’m used to).

For the good of the testing (and hopefully future enhancement), I will live with that for now and swap my primary and testing apps around.  At the very least that will be the end of the prompts to try the Android native app.

And it’s not transcoding either, I just checked.

Can I ask, what am I to call this Emby Android app, and should I get my remote users to change also (they don’t use recorded TV).

Is there a single thread to discuss this Emby for Android app, or do we open individual threads for issues ?

For issues, it's best to create a new topic for each issue.

There is this one, which is a long read (90+ pages), but it gives you the whole history of the Android TV app's transition to the Universal Android app.

For any new issues that aren't covered there, do as @seanbuffsuggests and create a new thread in the Android Testing area

Welcome to the DARK SIDE 😂
