hello there, i am sorry if this isn't the right place for the topic.

a week ago i noticed a strange behavior with my emby app ( on local network ) but yesterday i had enough with it,

while watching on local network ( wirelessly ) and btw its a 10 ft between my router and my media player ( DuneHD ) the movie stopped and i got the green circle for loading and then it closes the movie with a msg saying your server not on make sure its on and powered up. i can go back to the main screen but when i chose another movie or tv show i get a black screen, i have to close the app and wait like a minute or less so i can use the app again i tried it with 3 diff movies and tv shows some times i face the same issue, i was like is it the media player? let me try the tv now, and i got the same issue again. but yesterday i wanted to make sure that its not the media player so i connected the media player to a diff network with my phone hotspot, and it worked just fine.

i called couple of my friends that i share the server with asking them if they are facing any issues lately. all confirmed emby running smooth and working fine.

can someone please explain to me what's goin? and help me fix it .

thank you .

@Sankaw

I searched for Dune in the logs but couldn't find a device with Dune in the name as your first message mentions.
I did find:
HUAWEI MatePad 11.5
Phillips Hue
BRAVIA 4K
SONY XR-55X90L
as well as browsers such as Safari macOS

I noticed a couple things in your log.
Vantage Point is throwing an error every time it tries to access /volume1/Media/Intro's/fpv cable park 4k .mp4 which can't be found.

You have a lot of files that are synced. The server is sending out notifications to different targets that downloads are ready. For example:

2025-03-04 07:33:10.481 Debug App: Notifying target CDF3296A-B570-4810-80D7-258C2E83CA71 that downloads are ready
2025-03-04 07:33:10.481 Debug App: Notifying target 51B21ADF-5397-471B-B461-4E05786B09FA that downloads are ready
2025-03-04 07:33:10.481 Debug App: Notifying target 12BE9E25-08BA-4640-A909-0CD434FB3F38 that downloads are ready

The 3rd one above has 10 videos ready to sync.

Are you aware of this?

@Carlo

Thanks for your time,

DuneHD is the brand name, but maybe you can find it under this name ( tv175v ),

i will fix the Vantage Point issue now, i deleted this intro file but maybe i didn't change it.

regarding the synced file, id i am aware of those, what do you mean about that ?

thanks again .

I just wanted to verify you knew files had been set to download for several clients.

I do this myself as well.
There is nothing wrong with the download/sync files.

file : IMG_9508 you can see the movie was having trouble playing as it get buffering i guess

file : IMG_9510 in the end of the video with the subtitle in the top you can see it getting lag a bit

file : IMG_9511 same of IMG_9510 video, with the subtitle is on the video getting laggy .

Hi, yes please provide the emby server log and let us know what file you tried to play, and at what time. Thanks.

Hi @LukeThanks for replying 🙏,

At 14:40 i played solo leveling and at 14:45 the video stopped, it just was cut off, wasn't playing slowly or lagging or anything 😭 i can't enjoy it and its embarrassing when my friends are with me watching it happen couple of times.

i don't know why i have this feeling that maybe if we change the local port things will be ok?

because again when i play the files outside my home everything seems fine and smooth even my friends who can access my server with emby, non of them complain about movie stopping or cutting of.

Thank you again, hopefully you can fix this .

@Sankaw

After looking at your latest log, I was going to ask you if you ever noticed any network issues, but I see in IMG_9507 that it does appear there is a network issue.

I just want to confirm a couple things.
You have docker running on the NAS correct?
Are you running Emby Server directly installed on the Synology NAS or in a docker container running on the NAS?

On the Dune (TV175V), what are the entries (IP & port) setup for the Emby Server?
What is the IP of the Dune device?
Is the Dune using Wifi?

What does your Emby Server show on the Dashboard for Home (LAN) access?
Is your Emby Server connected via Ethernet cable to your router?

Is there a reason your using 8097 vs 8096 for the public port number?
Do you have port forwarding manually setup in your router?

That appears a little confusing as portmapper happens at the playback issue also.  At the same time shouldn't that just be for remote connections?

You're seeing the same things in the logs that has me asking some of the questions I asked.

The last option quoted was a different device "Emby-Device-Name=Safari macOS"

The other thing that bothers me looking at the log is the Range=bytes= entries from these nearly back to back entries in the log.

2025-03-23 14:40:08.080 Info Server: http/1.1 GET http://192.168.0.215:8096/emby/videos/72186/original.mkv?DeviceId=9f3a1f56ce43f007&MediaSourceId=22a4b6ae6d4c90cb97c45a02180c1f3f&PlaySessionId=96822fdf3cb64b22ab2147de3aed24cd&api_key=x_secret2_x. Requesting byte range of 1459387840 to the end of file doesn't make sense when just starting playback and not resuming a file unless perhaps it's checking for something near the EOF.

Do you have port forwarding manually setup in your router?

so the 8097 is for remote access and the 8096 is for local access, i thought it will be better to separate ports no?

and yes i have port forwarding manually for WAN 8097.

thanks again Carlo 🙏, patiently waiting for your reply.

For the connection from the Dune player did you setup a direct connection to your Emby Server or use Emby Connect?

8096 (default) would be normal to use instead of 8097 but technically should work fine with proper forwarding.

i really don't remember what i did before but after i read your reply i got the connection directly to the server ( i wrote the ip and the port 8096 ) manually, i played a file and the same thing happened with a msg saying ( no playable file ) .

23:39 i logged in

23:40 i started the file

23:50 the file stopped

yes i know the default port is, but again i thought having a different ports for local and public will be better, no?

am sorry what do you mean with proper forwarding ? isn't only for public port ?

here is a new log file.

2025-03-26 23:50:27.196 Info SessionManager: Playback stopped reported by app AndroidTv 2.1.23g on tv175v playing Solo Leveling - S2, Ep6 - Don't Look Down on My Guys. Stopped at 605364 ms. PlaySessionId: cd108901c98349a7bca3649c70c934e9

It's showing the app stopping playback at position 605364ms which is approximately 10.08 minutes from the beginning, so it appears to have been playing ok up to that point.

followed by

The port mapping is unusual to see happening like this well into the log unless something LAN wise changed.  This has shown up a couple times in your logs.

I think it's some type of LAN/WIFI issue but just to rule out any goofy router issue with the unusual port mapping, could you change the public port back to 8096 and change the router port forwarding to use only 8096 as well?

Do any of the logs on the Dune device show any network issues or drops?

Hey Carlo,

so i changed the public port from 8097 to 8096, and now i got both public and local have the same port, but the strange thing is that even before changing the port forwarding on the router to 8096,

Emby was accessible thru the internet, i was like how !!! i even disabled the port forwarding and still its accessible . please tell me what do you think about this. is it normal ?

anyway back to the issue, after changing the public port back to 8096, i watched 3 episodes and it was all goooood nothing happened, later tonight i will test it with a movie.

i will share a new log life, i started the first episode 14:04 to 14:27

thank you again Carlo 🙏
