UCM_1 10 Posted February 18 Posted February 18 Are there any plans to make the Roku version more like the LG version? Things like the continued playing of content in the background (as you move through the Emby menus), a nice menu on the side, etc? Conversely, any chance the fast forwarding/reverse implementation used in Roku can be added to the LG app? I recently started using the LG version of the app and, in general like the LG version better (especially since it handles closed captioning better), but the fast forwarding/reverse is worse in my opinion.

Playing content in the background? Do you mean a mini player PIP sorta thing?

The Emby LG app has this option as well, but the Emby Roku app does not (at least not that I've ever found). 2 hours ago, SamES said: In what way? For the fast forward/rewind, I suppose I need to be more specific in that it's the forward and reverse skipping that I am really talking about. The Emby Roku app shows a miniature screen of each position you are at, as well as miniature screens of a couple skips back and forward from the current position, as you skip forward or reverse. The Emby LG app does not do this. But the actual fast forward/reverse in the Roku version is also better, in my opinion, then the LG version. While the LG version does at least show the miniature screen of the position you are specifically at as it moves forward/reverse, it doesn't show positions before or after as the Roku version does. Having those screens of what past and what's coming up gives a person more reaction time to resume play where actually wanted.

Does it keep playing sound in the background and the entire video is covered by the media libraries and such? Or is there a mini video-player in some corner of the screen? Are these video playing in the background with the entire video player as the background? Can you show a screenshot of how this is done or explain a bit how it is done. But basically, the sound and video continue in the background. The video is just dimmed and behind the menus and such. Attached is how it looks using the Emby web interface, but the Emby LG app is basically the same.

It would be possible to do this on the Roku but I am not sure if the renderer on the Roku would handle both video layer and fullscreen screen layer without issue such as super laggy/jittery browsing or dropping frames on the video side. It would be possible though. Then to exit you just press back. Instead of asking would you like to exit the app it returns to the video player layer. We could make some kind of proof of concept to see if this is even possible. It has to work on a Roku express. The lowest powered chipset. If it can do it there Roku would pass the certification for it on all Roku devices. When I have some free time I can investigate how hard it would be to have a persistent video player while browsing. That would be kind of cool. Reference: Issue #1661: [VideoPlayer] Allow browsing while video plays in the background, also support video backgrounds. Edited February 19 by speechles

The functionality in the LG web is effectively the standard web app functionality, so to implement this like the Roku app, we would need to first implement it in the standard web app, and that would be up to @Luketo decide if that it is the desired approach.
