darkassassin07 561 Posted February 4 Posted February 4 (edited) In a recent update Emby for Android began showing these arrows for navigating side-scrolling elements of the home+details pages. (over 'The Promised') They are quite large and often not visible until you try to select whatever is beneath them (the last thing I was scrolling through in that screenshot was Stand-Up Shows, as you can see the arrows didn't appear). To me they've just been a nuisance since they showed up. Maybe more justified on tablets; but on a phone screen with limited width, they're just in the way more often than not. Could we make them like 40% smaller, make their display consistent instead of only appearing when you try to touch the space below them, and perhaps add a setting to remove them altogether on smaller devices? Maybe just tie them displaying at all to a minimum screen width. Edited February 4 by darkassassin07
Lessaj 240 Posted February 4 Posted February 4 What version of the app? I'm on 3.4.36 and can't reproduce getting an arrow to appear when scrolling through horizontal content with my fingers. However I also tried to plug in a mouse in case that was causing it to appear and that does seem to do it so are you using a mouse to navigate?
darkassassin07 561 Posted February 4 Author Posted February 4 (edited) App v3.4.36 Android 14 OneUI 6.1 On a Samsung A54. Nothing plugged in, just using the phone on it's own. They don't generally appear as I'm scrolling, but the moment I touch the space that they appear in, they popup. Edited February 4 by darkassassin07
Lessaj 240 Posted February 4 Posted February 4 Not able to reproduce on my end unfortunately, maybe I'm doing it differently than how you're describing... Maybe someone else can reproduce. screen-20250204-122311.mp4
darkassassin07 561 Posted February 4 Author Posted February 4 Hmm, I wonder why we get different results. You are tapping in the right spots, and this is pretty consistent for me. For good measure; I restarted the device, and re-installed the app. Didn't help.
darkassassin07 561 Posted February 4 Author Posted February 4 Here's a log from the android app. (hosts/names redacted) Enabled logging, fully closed the app, opened, scrolled around the homempage getting a couple arrows to appear, grabbed the log. emby_android_1738690769722.txt
Luke 39008 Posted February 4 Posted February 4 In Chrome, what does the your device section look like on this page? https://hover-pointer-media-query.glitch.me/ 1
darkassassin07 561 Posted February 4 Author Posted February 4 Identical to the "USUAL FOR ANDROID* PHONES AND TABLETS" section below.
Lessaj 240 Posted February 4 Posted February 4 (edited) Here is my device for comparison - Pixel 7 Pro. EDIT: This is after I plugged in a mouse. Edited February 4 by Lessaj
darkassassin07 561 Posted February 5 Author Posted February 5 (edited) I don't know why mine would be any different. It's a stock device with nothing connected to it. Your top image is listed as normal for iphone/ipad. The bottom+mine are listed as normal for android. Edited February 5 by darkassassin07
Lessaj 240 Posted February 5 Posted February 5 I also have a Pixel 3XL with bone stock whatever the latest rom is - literally fresh installed just to throw a SIM in it to use at a hot spot last summer while abroad and it's been off since then, wasn't even connected to my wifi network at home - and it also reports the same as my Pixel 7 Pro. These are the only android devices I have available to me unless I sideload chrome onto my shield and hope it works just to get a different result lol. Maybe your device has pen support and that's why it says hover? That would be similar to a mouse.
darkassassin07 561 Posted February 5 Author Posted February 5 @LukeThoughts? That site you asked me to test with says what I see is normal for Android, I don't have anything connected, androids settings states there isn't a physical keyboard/mouse connected and there's no mention of pen/stylus support. This is new behavior in the app. I've only seen it in the most recent update like a week ago.
darkassassin07 561 Posted February 9 Author Posted February 9 @Luke Why did you ask me to check with that site, then totally ignore me and the results. Am I to take it the official response is 'shut up and deal with it', then...
darkassassin07 561 Posted February 11 Author Posted February 11 (edited) @Luke If you're going to blatantly ignore me like this, I'm going to [redacted] start spamming [redacted] every single sub forum here until I get a(n) [redacted] answer. I provide an awful lot of my free time supporting users here wherever I can; the least you could do is actually look at the few problems I run into myself. Edited February 11 by GrimReaper Language
GrimReaper 3852 Posted February 11 Posted February 11 You're a respected and valuable member of the community and I'm sure the Devs appreciate all the assistance you're providing - as we all do - but I'm also sure you're aware that that kind of language is not looked upon favorably. I can understand the occasional frustration - find myself in same situation every now and then - sometimes it just takes lo(ooooooooo)nger than expected (or hoping for) to sort it out. I'm quite positive Luke will eventually reply (though it might potentially take more nagging). But do kindly tone it down. Thanks
GrimReaper 3852 Posted February 11 Posted February 11 (edited) FWIW I'm seeing same as @Lessajon my Android phone: Why would "@media(hover:hover)" be considered usual for typical Android is beyond me, I'd consider it to be usual for advanced models with S-pen support displays. Edited February 11 by GrimReaper
Lessaj 240 Posted February 11 Posted February 11 I was actually thinking to post if anyone else with an android that isn't a Samsung or Pixel could check because I also agree that I don't see why they would have hover if they don't have a pen. From what I understand this is basically a hobbyist website, maybe whomever developed it only had mostly Samsung devices and that's what drew them to that conclusion. 1
darkassassin07 561 Posted February 11 Author Posted February 11 (edited) You can't disrespect your community and expect them to remain all happy sunshine and roses Grim. I understand problems take time to fix, but completely ignoring people in the meantime is incredibly rude and disrespectful. It's been a full week, with Luke active on the forums the whole time. And me repeatedly asking for his input. How hard is it to drop a quick 'hey I'm working on/looking into this'. Or perhaps some follow up questions/ something I can look into. Again it's a stock device with nothing plugged in. I don't know where else to even look. This is entirely in the hands of the devs, and until this is acknowledged, I'm going to become VERY loud and make it front and center because I'm being ignored and disrespected. You're absolutely free to do so as much as you want - but do keep it civil. As a fellow user: I know you're a no-BS guy, but this ain't the hill worth dying on. As a mod: I'd hate it if at some point I were to be forced to go beyond simply redacting your posts. Edited February 11 by GrimReaper
darkassassin07 561 Posted February 11 Author Posted February 11 (edited) https://stackoverflow.com/questions/60531036/problem-with-css-media-query-to-detect-if-samsung-device-supports-hover https://www.ctrl.blog/entry/css-media-hover-samsung.html https://github.com/mdn/browser-compat-data/issues/21515 That last link notes Firefox works around this and reports @media(hover:none) (tested, accurate) Seems samsung usually reports hover:hover and others have had to work around it. GrimReaper 3852 Posted February 11 Posted February 11 If you access your server from mobile Chrome and mobile Firefox, how does it compare in relation to Android client app?
darkassassin07 561 Posted February 11 Author Posted February 11 Both chrome and firefox correctly hide the nav arrows. I only see them in Emby for Android. 1
GrimReaper 3852 Posted February 11 Posted February 11 Yeah, guess the Devs will have to implement some sort a workaround for Samsung devices in that case.
darkassassin07 561 Posted February 11 Author Posted February 11 Had my sister check with her Samsung S24. She also sees the nav arrows, and @media(hover:hover)
Luke 39008 Posted February 12 Posted February 12 Hi, please try the latest build and see how things compare. Thanks. 1
