BrandonYoung 11 Posted January 26 Posted January 26 Emby server version 4.8.10.0 running on Linux Mint 22.1 Playback via web app. tried both ChromeOS web browser, Acer Chromebook Spin 513 (CP513-2H) and Chrome on Windows 10 Unable to play live ATSC3.0 channels. Get error that no compatible stream available. Previously, it used to play with no problem, even if it transcoded. Also I have some recorded shows from the ATSC3.0 channels. They play, but the video isn't rendered properly. this is not supposed to be green. The recorded ATSC3.0 video plays back properly rendered in the Emby Theater app on Windows I also tried playing the live ATSC3.0 channel via the emby app on my android phone, version 3.4.33. It plays the channel, but according to the dashboard, it direct plays the video and audio, but the android phone can't play AC4. So there is no sound. It used to transcode the audio to MP3 to let me hear the audio. I also attached the emby server log and the transcode logs for one of my attempts at playing video. ffmpeg-transcode-61db7e35-2b8c-43df-b3e5-82fa621f3efc_1.txt embyserver.txt
BrandonYoung 11 Posted January 27 Author Posted January 27 I updated Chrome on my Windows 10 machine to the latest version, Version 132.0.6834.111 (Official Build) (64-bit) and the recorded KTLA 5 news show played, with the video properly rendered. However, I still cannot stream the KTLA 5 ATSC 3.0 channel 105.1 or the Fox 11 ATSC 3.0 channel 111.1 through emby. I tried through the web app and through the Emby Theater app on Windows. The channels play on the HDHomerun app, though. So the antenna feed and the HDHomerun box appear to be working. My server is running an intel 11th gen i5 and it should have Quicksync for decoding the HEVC video coming in and Quicksync encoding for H.264 for playing in my web browser. This has worked in the past. Could my upgrade from Linux Mint 22 to Linux Mint 22.1 broke something?
gconstan99 1 Posted January 31 Posted January 31 I am experiencing exactly the same thing for all 4 of my ATSC 3.0 channels. However, ATSC 1.0 channels work fine. I am also running Emby server version 4.8.10.0, but under Mac OS X. For me, this started happening on Monday, 1/27/2025. By the way, all 4 ATSC3.0 channels play under HDHomerun without any issues. Past recordings of ATSC3.0 channels (before 1/27/2025), playback fine, but all the recordings after 1/27/2025, fail to playback, giving the message "Playback Error - No compatible streams are currently available. Please try again later or contact your system administrator for details." I have not updated any software on my server since I installed Emby server version 4.8.10.0, back in 9/30/2024. Everything was running flawlessly until 3 days ago. I reinstalled the Emby server at a different place, without saving any settings, but I am getting the same results after a lot of testing on various devices. The best luck I had was on my Android phone, running the Emby client. I also noticed that my phone is able to play the streams in the "Direct" mode, without having to transcode. Currently, this is the only way I have to play live ATSC 3.0 channels. Before this started happening, I could see a lot of transcoding going on, since I could see the "ffmpeg" processe using a lot of CPU. But this week, I only see this ffmpeg process happening very rarely, and only for a split second. Before, it would go on continuously, using 80 to 90% of my total CPU for the whole duration of the streaming on my newly purchased Roku Ultra device. Since nothing really changed with my setup, I am wondering if something changed with the way the ATSC 3.0 channels are being streamed. It's also interesting that the HDHomerun doesn't have any issues. I am also interested in hearing ideas about why this is happening, and if more people are experiencing this. Thanks!

Thanks! @gconstan99 Hi there, let's look at an example. Please attach the information requested in how to report a media playback issue. Thanks!

The above video mentions that only an Android device works now, because that is the only Operating System supported for decoding correctly ATSC 3.0, following the latest ATSC 3.0 interactive features activation. Thanks for finding and sharing this video. Chances are that more Emby users will start experiencing this, so if they are reading this post, they will realize why all of a sudden they can't watch live TV using the Emby client, except from an Android device, or directly using the HDHomerun app in their local network. If anyone finds a workaround, please post it here. My guess is that this might not be an easy fix, especially if it needs a HDHomerun firmware upgrade. I hope that the Emby server team is already aware about the ATSC 3.0 interactive features activation change, and probably working in the background to figure out what needs to be done. When I get a chance, I will create and report here the Emby Server Logs, as requested by @Luke Thanks! 1

It may be time to look for alternative sources.

BrandonYoung 11 Posted February 6 Author Posted February 6 Update, it looks like I can watch KTLA 5 live now, it is transcoding to H.264 video and MP3 audio when playing in my web browser. However Fox 11 still isn't playing. This isn't a DRM issue specifically. Both KTLA 5 and Fox 11 are not DRM encrypted. Also I am able to schedule recordings and the KTLA 5 recordings play fine, they are properly being transcoded. However, the Fox 11 recordings can't be played back. Also, it looks like emby can't see what's in the recorded Fox 11 recording. It doesn't show the chapter preview pictures, or the details of the contents of the stream like the video details or the audio and subtitle tracks like it does for KTLA 5. I have attached my latest emby log and the transcode log for the Fox 11 stream failure. embyserver.txt ffmpeg-transcode-7db046c0-8ef4-4158-b4ed-42cd91c9915e_1.txt
