Help Needed: Can't Connect Emby App to Server via Cloudflare Tunnel

Hi everyone,

I’m hoping someone can help me out, I’m new to this and have been troubleshooting various issues for days.

I’ve set up a Cloudflare tunnel for my Emby server, and I can successfully log into the server remotely using the web address I created (e.g., https://media.mydomain.com). However, I can’t seem to use that same address to connect to my server through the Emby app.

I’m sure I’m just missing something simple, but I’ve hit a wall. My goal is to set up remote access so my family and friends can use the Emby app to connect to my server.

Here’s what I’ve done so far:

  • Cloudflare tunnel is up and running.
  • The web address works fine in a browser for remote access.
  • I’ve tried entering the same address in the Emby app, but it doesn’t connect.

Does anyone know what I might be doing wrong or have any advice for troubleshooting this?

Thanks in advance for your help! 😊

Hi, have you taken a look at this?

@LukeFirst time seeing it, I had no idea about the VIDEO FILES BLOCKED and TOS issue with cloudflare. Is that why i cant log into the app with my domain? or are you just letting me know the setting recommendation i am little confused sorry?

I'm not sure why you can't login. I was just pointing you there because it contains a lot of helpful info. A lot of users here still use cloudfare despite the warnings on the first page of that topic.

What exactly happens when you try to login?

I see, well i read it all, it was pretty interesting but wasnt helpful for me.
I can use emby on LAN and i can use it from webbrowser remotely using my domain address but if i try to use that in the app centre to log in remotely i just get the failed the reach server error. I am just double checking that is what i should be using to log in example (https:emby.server.fun) and no longer example (172.168.52.17) either way both addresses like that dont work for me remotely.

I am open to trying new things and different ways to access remotely.

Right but usually 8096 is the http port for emby, not https. Are you confusing the two?

I am still learning this networking game. All my knowledge is surface level, listening to guides and advice. Like i dont even know what i should be logging in with (ref quote).

Hi, why not start by keeping it simple and disable cloudfare? Right now I think that is only adding an extra layer of complication for you.

I thought I needed it to host the domain? I open to changing it I just dont know where to start and what i should be doing. Everything was fine until i changed ISP and they had me on Cgnat and then i had to change to a dynamtic ip. I just followed guides online because it was the only place i was getting help

Cloudfare is not required. If you’re dealing with a cgnat then what you want is tailscsale or a vpn. A lot of users here use tailscale and have found it easy to get setup.

@LukeI asked my ISP to remove the cGnat and now i have a dynamtic IP. I spent the last 6 hours looking at setting up Tailscale only to learn that it will cause the issue that i have which is not being able to log in via the app remotely for TV is that correct?

Hi, no that's not true. A lot of users around here use TailScale for remote access.  Did you try it?
