DangieVault 0 Posted December 3, 2024 Posted December 3, 2024 Hi everyone. I've been a long time subsonic user and I'm considering switching over to emby. I've got my server set up and I've been using for a few days. I wanted to test it out before I spring for premiere. I'm running into some issues and have some questions I'm hoping more seasoned users can answer. 1.) it seems as though the queue is not maintained after the app is closed. If I leave it pause too long and it closes in the background, my play queue is gone. I am using the free version so maybe that's a function of premiere? 2.) it seems like song files are deleted immediately after playing the song. Is there a way to have it keep a certain amount? On Subsonic You can set the cache limit and it will keep that many songs. So you always have some available for offline listening. I see that with premier access you can manually download songs. But is that the only way to have them available offline? 3.) Is there no way to customize the context menus? There's a lot of options that I could do without and it would really clean it up. Any help or advice is appreciated. Thanks!
Neminem 698 Posted December 3, 2024 Posted December 3, 2024 Tbh Emby's music implementation is not what you want, if you compare it to something like a dedicated music server, like subsonic.

I meant deleting off of the client device not the server. For example, in my current setup (subsonic), I set my cache limit to 4 GB. Whenever I play a song, that file stays cached on my phone. Once the cached files reaches 4 GB, it deletes the oldest files to make room. So I have a rolling 4 GB of previously cached music that's available offline. In Emby, I'm assuming the file is cached somewhere when I play it. But that cached file doesn't seem to be available. I see that downloading files is a premiere feature so I guess what I'm asking is will previously played songs show up there once I sign up for premiere? Or would I have to manually download any files that I want available offline? I want to add though that I'm really enjoying Emby so far. I'll probably end up getting premier anyway just for the video functionality.

I was just about to post a request for this same functionality. There is no persistence to the queue after closing the Emby app or just switching away to a different app for a little while. Having the play queue dynamically written to disc would be very useful functionality. 1
