Hi,

I recently started using NFOs and I'm having an issue when I put TV shows or movies into collections that aren't in collections on tmbd.

After a a couple of days they are removed from the collections. I think it's happening o. Every library refresh or metadata update.

I have turned on NFO metadata reader on and tried both NFO metadata server off and on with the same result.

The reason why I'm using NFO files is because I use radarr and sonarr and use tags.

So the reason why I recently switched to using NFOs was to tag certain things as "kids" through automation.

I currently have kids TV Shows and kids movies in seperate root folders than my regular or non-kids movies and tv shows.

There are however some tv shows and movies that are in the regular folders that I want to allow my kids to access.

I found the options in emby limiting for age rating restrictions because there are some PG rated media I do not want them to access. Equally restricting them to G or equivalent restricts PG rated media that I'm happy for then to access.

If there is better way to achieve what I'm trying to do then I'm happy to try that, but tagging seemed the most logical. I just don't understand why when I put items in collections that aren't in collections on tmbd they are removed. Am I doing something wrong or missed something.

If you need more information or screenshots let me know.

Thanks

Need specific examples but if you create a collection in Emby with nfo save enabled it will write a <set> node to the nfo file so it can not be lost in a refresh/replace metadata unless something else is writing your nfo files and removing these Emby edits?

Hi, yes can you please show us a specific example of what you mean? Thanks.

Hi guys,

Thanks for replying.

Let's use Alien Collection for example.

https://www.themoviedb.org/collection/8091-alien-collection

The collection includes Alien, Aliens, Alien 3 and Alien Resurrection.

I manually add Prometheus, Alien Covenant and Alien Romulus to this collection as they are not listed on tmbd in the collection.

After a couple of days those manually added movies are no longer within the Alien collection.

This issue is not just limited to this collection but all my collections, no matter which library.

As I said this only started happening when I started using NFOs.

I'm using Windows 11 for the server OS and my emby server is version 4.8.10.0 and it appears to be the latest version my server can get.

So this is where I might be doing something wrong. Sonarr and Radarr have access to the NFO files. Could it be possible that they are re-writing to the NFOs and overwriting the changes emby is making?

Yes, try turning this off.

Another think to note about using Sonarr and Radarr.

Then they upgrade media they will delete extra files, such as nfo, images, external subtitle files.

If you have setup recycle bin in them, you can recover those deleted files from there.

Yes, very possible, and likely this is the reason.

Thanks.

Ok I found a setting in radarr for radarr to write the collection info to the NFO. I turned that off.

The reason I started using NFOs was to use tags, so I can specify movies and tv shows for my kids to watch that are outside the kids movies and shows libraries.

Is there an easier way to use tags across emby and radarr/sonarr?

Hi, couldn’t you edit the tags from inside Emby instead?

I could but that means editing the metadata of every movie or show individually. I might have to do that.

I turned the option off in Radarr for it to write collection info to NFOs but it seems to be still happening.

I don't know if it's related but group versions are no longer stating grouped.

I think I need to stop using NFOs or stop radarr using NFOs.

stop radarr using NFOs.

@sambarlickthis is what I would suggest trying. What is still happening after doing that?

Ok, so turning NFOs off in radarr/sonarr solves my issues with emby.

I'll just manually have to assign tags, unless there is a better way of assigning tags.

Thanks everyone.
