Most devices today have screens at a ratio of 21:9, 19:9, 18:9... If using the system screenshot for 16:9 videos, which are most commonly seen, there will be 2 ugly black edges on left and right sides. Many streaming players provide the screenshot button which can directly create screenshots from video sources. I wonder emby could add such a button for Android app?

The circled button below is a screenshot button on bilibili.

Hi, in theory we could, but I also think you can argue that if we're going to start putting buttons there, then there are other more important functions that we could allocate the space for.

I apologize if I offend you. <(_ _)> Just add such a function, no matter where the button is.

When talking a screenshot on android, which is usually done with a hardware key combo like volume down+lock; you get a popup overlay with actions to perform including edit, where you can crop out the unwanted parts of the image.

Sure you can crop by yourself. But there can be some inaccuracy (personally I'm strict with it). If you want a "perfect" screenshot with an accurate ratio, no pixels missed and no black left, so that it can fit a big screen perfectly, the most natural and accurate way is to screenshot from the video source.

Exactly use another tool, to produce your mugshot.

Load the video into vlc and take the screenshot.

A ) the android crop tool snaps to edges, quickly giving you a pretty accurate crop with little effort.

B ) Android is really not the platform for pixel perfect image manipulation. If you really want accuracy, you should be doing this from a desktop toolset and work directly from the media source file, not a web stream.
