UCM_1 10 Posted September 23 Posted September 23 (edited) How about options to choose when to use, and/or when not to use, hardware transcoding? For the longest time, watching live TV on a Roku has locked up every now and then -- typically when reception was less than perfect, when it could happen multiple times in short periods. I had always assumed it was simply due to the bad reception and some bug somewhere that could get triggered by the bad reception. However, early today I happened to have the same channel playing on a Roku, and on also on an Emby Theater app. When the Roku app player stopped working, I noticed the Emby Theater app continued. The only difference was that the Roku stream was being processed due to the closed captioning. I turned off hardware accelerated transcoding, and the problem disappeared. It's too early to say definitively that that was the issue, but what was happening multiple times in a short period early in the day, hasn't happened since. But, whether or not that is the issue, and whether or not it's a problem specific to my software/hardware on my system, having the option to use (or not to use) hardware transcoding depending on the type of source could potentially solve niche case issues users may be having (it looks like it would certainly solve mine -- I don't have the above type of transcoding issues with "well behaved" sources like movies, etc. Just misbehaving sources like inconsistent over-the-air sources) Edited September 23 by UCM_1
Luke 38491 Posted September 30 Posted September 30 Hi, yes I can see how this would be useful in certain situations. Thanks for the feedback.
