CalMac 0 Posted August 5, 2024 Posted August 5, 2024 I have the server set up on a mac mini. I can access it on all other platforms I use without issue (Chromecast, Android, iPad). However I would like to access my content from my Mac Studio (M1 Max running latest Ventura) and the player app is crashing as soon as I press play on any of my content. I've tried downloading the app from both the app store and the emby website and still get the same outcome. I've attached the crash report that I get when I click on show details from the pop-up I get after each crash. First time posting so please let me know if you need further details. Any help would be massively appreciated. Thanks!! Emby Crash Report.pdf

CalMac 0 Posted August 31, 2024 Author Posted August 31, 2024 I'm travelling at the moment so I can't send anything. But it was happening with every video on my library which vary in codecs and file size.

JVmedia 7 Posted September 24, 2024 Posted September 24, 2024 (edited) This may be the same issue as reported in my post just now (i.e. is the Settings > Privacy & Security > Local Network > Emby permission off or not properly set which causes the crash)?: Edited September 24, 2024 by JVmedia 1
CalMac 0 Posted October 21, 2024 Author Posted October 21, 2024 Hi @Luke I'm back from my travels and able to look into this further. Before I send you anything, I have a bit of an update... I've established that I can play videos through the theatre app when I am connected via wifi, but the app crashes when I play any content when connected via ethernet! I'm able to replicate this every time I use the app. Any ideas why the app would crash playing content over ethernet. I do not have any other connectivity issues using the same ether net connection. Thanks! Calum
Carlo 4550 Posted October 21, 2024 Posted October 21, 2024 If that's the case, you might have a messed-up network stack. Any use of a VPN in any way? Are you using Emby Connect or using the server IP and port to connect? What is your IP when using WIFI? What is your IP using Ethernet? Just wondering if your WIFI is giving you a different IP range which many routers do especially if it's a guest WIFI.
CalMac 0 Posted October 23, 2024 Author Posted October 23, 2024 @CarloI'm connecting using the server IP and port. Not sure what the IP address is over wifi but I'm using an Asus RT-AC68U and the DHCP Server is enabled with a specific IP Pool. With the same laptop I can access the server and play content without issue over ethernet using the web interface. However the computer starts to slow down considerably when doing so. Is that normal using the browser? It's just when I use the mac app, that any content crashes when I press play. I can still connect to and browse my libraries just fine. The plot thickens...

If it is transcoding then that could be due to resource consumption caused by that.
CalMac 0 Posted November 7, 2024 Author Posted November 7, 2024 Sorry @Luke Regarding the playback it's direct playing. Seems to be better on a new laptop thought. Even with the new laptop I'm still experiencing the same issue with the app that crashes upon pressing play. I'll keep looking into my network as per Carlo's suggestions. Just strange that I'm not having any other network issues.
zensor 1 Posted November 8, 2024 Posted November 8, 2024 Hello, Wondering if there are any news on this subject. It was all working fine until it did not. Out of the sudden the Mac Desktop app crashes when i try to play any music. Some videos play alright, but no music whatsoever. OSX 14.6.1 Notes: - I installed through the App Store -I have uninstalled also using the App Store - when i download again, it automatically signs me in, even though i logged out. How can i completely uninstall the app on a mac.? i think if i could do a fresh install it may work. I can access everything fine both through browser or mobile. Its the desktop app that is failling mostly on music play. thank you.
CalMac 0 Posted April 14 Author Posted April 14 So I installed the latest update to the server the other day and I was so happ that I was able to open up videos on my mac without any issues.... Until today when it was working this morning and now it's not again. Exactly the same as before. I can browse the library but as soon as I press play it crashes. Tried resetting everything and still the same outcome. Extremely frustrating now
CalMac 0 Posted April 14 Author Posted April 14 I always have the mac connected to a Studio Display and it was working fine with that for the last few days. No idea what changed all of a sudden. But I just noticed a workaround on another thread about disconnecting from the studio display and playing some content then reconnecting to the studio display. This worked for me! Hopefully that gives you something to work with?
CalMac 0 Posted April 14 Author Posted April 14 Sorry for the multiple posts. It's when the audio is set to play on the studio display (as per another thread). I can set my mac settings so that the audio comes from the macbook speakers, then press play on the video, then switch the audio back to the studio display and that works fine. M2 Max Macbook Pro connected to Studio Display via Thunderbolt 4 Cable.
CalMac 0 Posted Thursday at 03:41 AM Author Posted Thursday at 03:41 AM @LukeJust checking if you guys clocked the last few messages that has pinpointed the issue? Would be amazing if it could be looked at, as it's such a pain to constantly be switching where the audio will play before watching something on the Mac Studio Display. Thanks! Calum
