edejaeger77 1 Posted June 17 Posted June 17 Hello everybody ! Once again, Sonos has degraded their set of features with their new update. Now, the local music files cannot be accessed anymore. Their Support team explained that the feature was delayed. I answered no, it has been removed, not delayed, but their Product Manager is still the only one who knows better than anyone what the users need, how they use their app and so on. I was about to trash my two Sonos Connect when I remembered it was possible to play music to Sonos using the Sonos Controller extension. I used it very few times when Emby server was installed onto my PC, but now it is hosted on a Synology NAS. So I installed the extension, but when I click onto the cast button, it only proposes my Emby for Android client, it does not display none of my Sonos Connect. Is this extension supposed to be still working ? If yes, does someone have an idea on what I have to do to configure my Sonos system ? ...if there is still something that can be configured... Many thanks for your help ! B.R. Eric
Luke 38525 Posted June 17 Posted June 17 Hi, normally you don't need to do anything else, and no, there isn't any known Sonos problem. Does anything have to be enabled on the Sonos side?
12vibes 6 Posted July 28 Posted July 28 Hi As of today 28 July. Sonos has disappeared from the Emby cast menu. On 21 July it was working fine. I presume that this is a Sonos problem. Has anyone any further information ? Thanks John
Spaceboy 2561 Posted July 28 Posted July 28 no issues here but i havent updated any sonos devices for a while
12vibes 6 Posted July 28 Posted July 28 Problem found. Had a Vodafone router giving me the same name on WiFi and wired. Put in a mesh system for the WiFi with a mesh ssid Emby server still on wired network from Vodafone router. Then emby can't see sonos. Move emby server to mesh WiFi and all ok
edejaeger77 1 Posted July 28 Author Posted July 28 Sorry @Luke, @12vibesand @Spaceboy, I only have received the notification of your messages today ! After years of good-working, my Sonos system works now when it wants... I still cannot cast my music, one of the Sonos Connect can access the local library, but the other one cannot. I don't know why. They are both using Wi-Fi (previously, one was on the Ethernet and the other one was on the Wi-Fi, but none was working). Sometimes, the one was working only a very few days, and since several days, I have a right issue with 1 of them. But this has nothing to see with the cast. I am just convinced that a Sonos system based on Connect is designed for not-working, and the issue is when it does. B.R. Eric

When you say it was giving the same name... The same name for what ? Thanks. Eric
12vibes 6 Posted July 29 Posted July 29 Sonos really needs to be on Wifi. Before the Vodafone router allowed the Sonos on WiFi and emby on wired to work, therefore the must have had the same network name. When I changed to the Mesh the sonos speakers disappeared from the Cast menu. When I put Emby server on the same WiFi as Sonos they all reappeared.

I have the same kind of configuration as yours : the NAS on Ethernet et the Sonos Connects on Wi-Fi. Despite it was working previously and I did not changed the routeur for a while, the thing is that the room where the NAS (which hosts Emby) is located has a very bad Wi-Fi signal, but the room is wired (with a hidden cable). For the two Connects, one can be wired (I will try this) but not the other one. I will try with this one. Unfortunately, for the second one (which cannot be wired), I wanted to use Emby instead of the Sonos App because the app cannot play the music. It works with the other Connect (the one which can be wired), so even if Emby sees one of the two Connects, I will be in the same situation, with one Connect that plays music from the local library, and the other one that does not work at all. Maybe this test will give me a few ideas Thanks again ! Eric
