zebo51 19 Posted May 2, 2024 Posted May 2, 2024 I finally made the jump from 4.7.14 to 4.8.5. Since then while watching shows it will sporadically skip back.5s or 1s ish and replay. Just like a quick rewind and then plays that same 1s over and keeps going on with the show. No stopping or errors on screen. It has done it with several different shows now so it doesn't seem to be a bad file etc. I'm running emby on windows 11 and using Rokus. It has done it on 2 different rokus. No subtitles or anything extra. A couple times the app would just crash, I would reopen, start show and it would crash again after a few seconds. One time I noticed on the dashboard that the show was still playing After I rebooted everything I haven't seen that happen again, just the shows skipping back. I found a spot in a show that kept doing it, but after I enabled debug logging on the server and roku it didn't do it again. So I'm still working on getting a log. Please let me know who might work this issue so I can send them my log once I get it, I don't like to post logs publicly. Thanks 1
zebo51 19 Posted May 2, 2024 Author Posted May 2, 2024 (edited) Just happened and while trying to grab logs my emby server crashed and rebooted. I did have debug turned on in the roku settings and did the Send Log option. It happened while watching Star Trek Discovery around 11:24 eastern and 24:52 into the show. I rewound a couple times so it would show it a few times in that time frame. As long as I stay in that spot and pause and go back it will keep doing it. If I stop the show and then resume the same spot doesn't keep happening. I have the embyserver and ffmeg logs to send too when ready. Thanks Edit: Caught another one, same show during the credits, 56:15 into the show. Around 12:19p eastern. Sent logs from Roku. Edited May 2, 2024 by zebo51
ebr 15576 Posted May 2, 2024 Posted May 2, 2024 Hi. I don't think there is anything in the app log that will tell us anything. It is just progressing with playback until you start pausing and jumping back. I suspect this is the HLS segments getting mixed up during the remux/transcode. It could indicate a timing issue in the file itself (like it was stitched together or something) or could be some other anomaly. Please send the server and ffmpeg logs to Luke.

MikaelKW 6 Posted May 14, 2024 Posted May 14, 2024 Same problem here after upgrading from 4.8.3 to 4.8.6. 1
MrMattt 0 Posted June 4, 2024 Posted June 4, 2024 Still happening on 4.8.7.0 with Google Chrome as the client. Video is direct play but audio is being transcoded. This happens across many of my files.
Luke 39644 Posted June 10, 2024 Posted June 10, 2024 Hi, have you updated to Emby Server 4.8.8? Has that helped?

ItsRick 0 Posted June 11, 2024 Posted June 11, 2024 I can also confirm running Chrome client and version 4.8.7.0. Im awaiting Unraid to update the docker image to upgrade. Amazon TV's working without issue
hoopsoft 1 Posted June 27, 2024 Posted June 27, 2024 Same here its probably done it since 4.8.1 currently on 4.8.8, Chrome browser, roku, and LG app all do it now, .. Windows server 2019. Nearly every single thing I play via chrome browser will hiccup and bounce back a few seconds fairly close to the start of each program, many times it throw the audio out of sync, and I have to stop and restart, but then it will do it again.
user84 35 Posted June 27, 2024 Posted June 27, 2024 This has been the issue I have dealt with for months. It seems it has "spread" to other platforms. Glad to see it isn't just isolated to Roku anymore. Maybe it will actually get fixed now.
zebo51 19 Posted June 27, 2024 Author Posted June 27, 2024 For me it seems to have gotten worse. Started out just once during a show/movie, now i notice after I pause and start again it seems to happen more. Thanks
ShogunX 3 Posted July 21, 2024 Posted July 21, 2024 (edited) I too am experiencing this issue. It has been going on for some time so I don't know when it started. I'm working my way through Stargate SG-1 and it occurs 1-2 times per episode where the playback just jumps back about a second or two and replays that part again. It doesn't occur in every episode but it happens during most. I'd say the skipping shows up around 80-90% of the time. Most episodes I fast forward through the intro and its not uncommon to pause. I am on a Roku Ultra Emby version 4.8.8.0 Unraid version 6.12.10 Edited July 21, 2024 by ShogunX

netreaper 0 Posted July 22, 2024 Posted July 22, 2024 I've got the same issue. I'm running emby 4.8.8.0 on my Synology NAS. The problem appears regardless of whether I access via http or https and it appears with different video formats and resolutions. For example, I just had the problem with a video with 576p H264, AC3 5.1. I use Windows 11 and Linux Mint as clients, both with Google Chrome (current version)
eph77341 3 Posted July 22, 2024 Posted July 22, 2024 Can confirm this error on Samsung smart TV too. Always mkv-files but various codecs. Replays 5 secs without Sound.
SirQuickly 0 Posted August 8, 2024 Posted August 8, 2024 I have the same problem with playback on Chrome since Emby Server on my Synology NAS was updated to version 4.8.8.0. With Microsoft Edge, which like Google Chrome is based on Chromium, there are no problems at all.

zebo51 19 Posted August 24, 2024 Author Posted August 24, 2024 Any progress being made on this, seems to have gotten worse for me since I first reported it.
ShogunX 3 Posted August 24, 2024 Posted August 24, 2024 I can confirm the behavior only occurs after pausing for me. Fast forward doesn't have the same issue. It does seem to be getting worse. I've had it happen multiple times after pausing. It takes any where from a few minutes to maybe 15-20 minutes for the looping to occur.
Luke 39644 Posted September 6, 2024 Posted September 6, 2024 Hi, we are looking into this. Thanks for reporting.
amack 1 Posted September 12, 2024 Posted September 12, 2024 Happened to find this post while googling my issues. I'm having this issue on both two Rokus and Chrome (both in network and outside of network). On multiple types of video files. Most of the files used to play without slight the skip ahead issue.
