MacGyver27 18
Hello, Over the years of using Emby I have noticed it is not giving all the results when searching for some string.. I am talking about non movie/series content.. okay, I am talking about adult videos. When I put to search an actress name it sometimes gives only 10-30% of the results while Jellyfin gives me every time all 100% results. Couple months ago I configured Emby from scratch and at the end it will start omitting some files in search results.. I just recalled there was a period of time where videos were not automatically scanned due to `inotify-info` limits (they were added once it was triggered manual scan).. Could it be that the contend added during this time is ignored from the search results? Thanks!
Luke 38371
Hi there, can you please provide a specific example? Thanks.

Luke 38371
HI there, how are your files named and organized?
MacGyver27 18
Hey. As follows: Library `Downloads` is mapped to `/downloads` Library `Downloads.ADV` is mapped to `/downloads/torrent/@adv`. Files within `/downloads/torrent/@adv` are randomly nested.. they can be directly in @adv or nested with multiple folders. Usually no more than 2.. Luke 38371
How did you setup the library in Emby server? Pointing to what folder and what content type?
MacGyver27 18
Content type: Home videos & photos Folder location: Other settings:
Neminem 589
Your folder path indicates, that you are using your torrent download folder. And you need to check TV Naming Edited May 20 by jaycedk
MacGyver27 18
This is a Home videos & photos type of folder. So it is meant for random content. Anyway why different naming would cause missing search results? Then why Jellyfin has no issues finding all the files then? Only Emby? Thanks. Luke 38371
How many libraries have you added, and what folder paths are added to each one?
MacGyver27 18
Total 18 libraries each having just single path:
Luke 38371
The issue is likely due to the overlapping paths between the Downloads and the Downloads.ADV library. I would suggest removing the Downloads.ADV library for now.
MacGyver27 18
removed Downloads.ADV and nothing has changed.. still getting just 1 result:
MacGyver27 18
Another problem.. once I deleted Downloadd.ADV I lost all the metadata such as thumbnails and peek previews and they fail to be regenerated back even when forced with refresh metadata.. how so?? Luke 38371
OK please run a library scan and then when it complete please attach the emby server log: How to Report a Problem Thanks.
MacGyver27 18
So I removed the @Downloads library entirely.. waited more than a day. Recreated it again, and waited until today to see the scan has finished. The result is same.. it only finds the single video - same as before: Explorer: Â Logs are attached. Thanks! Luke 38371
OK very strange. Since you're on windows, is there any chance you can spin up a separate portable install and see how that compares? https://emby.media/windows-server.html Just download the portable zip, unzip and run. You'll want to shutdown your current emby server first, but as long as you run portable, your current server won't be disrupted. Thanks.
MacGyver27 18
My server is in Docker on Linux.. I can try to spin up new one just with Downloads library and will let you know.
MacGyver27 18
So created everything from scratch configuring just the @Downloads library with the same results: root@952538d90601:/# find /srv/media/.downloads/ -iname "*barclays*" -type f /srv/media/.downloads/torrent/@adv/#doing/familystrokes.24.01.18.lulu.chu.and.brooke.barclays.new.house.new.rules.mp4 /srv/media/.downloads/torrent/@adv/#doing/familystrokes.24.01.18.lulu.chu.and.brooke.barclays.new.house.new.rules (2).mp4 /srv/media/.downloads/torrent/@adv/#doing/momwantstobreed.24.01.26.brooke.barclays.whatever.stepmom.wants.480p.mp4 /srv/media/.downloads/torrent/@adv/#doing/HotMilfsFuck 22.07.10 Brooke Barclays Kwality Pussie Phine Brooke XXX 1080p MP4 [SpankHash].mp4 /srv/media/.downloads/torrent/@adv/#doing/usepov.23.11.27.brooke.barclays.a.freeuse.visitor.480p.mp4 /srv/media/.downloads/torrent/@adv/#doing/momsfamilysecrets.24.03.08.brooke.barclays.stepmoms.milk.480p.mp4 /srv/media/.downloads/torrent/@adv/#doing/momwantstobreed.24.01.26.brooke.barclays.whatever.stepmom.wants.mp4 /srv/media/.downloads/torrent/@adv/#downloading/PervMom.24.05.19.Sage.Pillar.And.Brooke.Barclays.What.She.Needs.XXX.480p.MP4-XXX[XC]/pervmom.24.05.19.sage.pillar.and.brooke.barclays.what.she.needs.480p.mp4 root@952538d90601:/# hardware_detection-63852841329.txtembyserver-63852841395.txthardware_detection-63852841401.txtembyserver-63852883200.txtembyserver.txt Edited June 2 by MacGyver27

MacGyver27 18
10 minutes ago, jaycedk said: Try removing the . from .download. I cannot do it and don't want to do it. You can see that files are found but only some don't appear in the search results. If it had any effect it wouldn't show the only file it found as well.. The only hidden folder is the "root" one, everything else within that folder is visible. You can see that e.g. these 2 files are present: /srv/media/.downloads/torrent/@adv/#doing/familystrokes.24.01.18.lulu.chu.and.brooke.barclays.new.house.new.rules.mp4 /srv/media/.downloads/torrent/@adv/#doing/familystrokes.24.01.18.lulu.chu.and.brooke.barclays.new.house.new.rules (2).mp4 My other counter argument is when Jellyfin can find all of them without issues why Emby can't? MacGyver27 18
Well in my humble opinion proper developers should be happy for the bug discovery and don't distract from the problem with really unnecessary statements (every IT dummy knows what . prefix does, and user put it there for a reason). At the end we all want the better app don't we? Anyway just to remind you I did what I was asked for. Created from scratch new emby instance with the only library which has problems which cost me and my users 2 days of streaming absence.. not mentioning I supported emby with my premiere subscription. To rehearse the issue with my 2 cents.. We can say emby registers all the files since they are present in the library. They are playable and work just fine.. if a user puts a string into search box it definitely wont query the file system but the emby's database - ruling out the problem with the hidden folders. So the problem is somewhere on the emby's side - possibly indexing function skipping certain files for some reason which needs to be discovered.. Thanks! Luke 38371
OK yes currently the server ignores files and folders when their name starts with a . So that explains it.
