Hallo,
I am currently experiencing the issue that the old playlists no longer work. I only see the name of the list but no content.

If I delete the lists (XML files) and create new ones, they disappear again after a media scan of the server (Scan media library)

Emby Docker 4.8.3.0
I have another test server with 4.8.1.0 - I also have the error here.

Can you post the server log for a specific example.

But yes these have been revamped but should not affect any existing playlist.

@GrimReaperwould you move this to General as this is not a beta issue.

Her the Log 4.8.1.0

the problem is not only with existing ones. But also with new lists that then disappear.

I have only had older XML playlists disappear if they were created with smart playlists and left as live lists during the upgrade.
The smart playlists plugin isn't currently compatible with the 4.8.* builds of emby and that has caused some issues.

I did have to go into the admin user account and enable 'Allow sharing personal content such as playlists with other users on this server'  and then it is still a bit of a permissions crap shoot to allow for sharing safely; not exposing the entire users list to each user. You might want to look at that setting and then the manage playlists option that is available.

I have already looked at the sharing of the playlists. I have not used a plugin.

I can also create a new list. Then also share it with others. But as soon as the media scan is run, everything is gone again... 😕

Are the new lists stored in the database or is an XML file still created?
No XML file is created when a new list is created.  🤔

How are you making the playlist?  As I don't believe xml is used any more as of 4.8 and should have migrated to m3u if I remember correctly.

Only thing I can think of would be parental controls, do you have any applied?  If so have you verified Playlists?

Should see the playlist in \programdata\data\userplaylists.

the list is created with emby on-board tools. There is no parental control.

Have to wait and see if devs or someone else has any ideas as I know I don't see this behavior and haven't been able to replicate it.

The log you posted doesn't show anything besides startup.

I would enable debug logging via Logs-Advanced and replicate the issue and post the log.

Hi, when you upgrade from 4.7 to 4.8, the server upgrades your xml playlist to m3u8, which is a more standardized playlist format.

Where did these xml files come from?

Also having this issue. Went into Emby after the latest update and all playlists are empty.

All playlists were created from within Emby and all songs were added to the playlists via Emby menu options. Below you can see the directory for the playlist is empty.

I tried creating a new playlist and adding a song to it. The new playlist doesn't show up anywhere. Attached is the log file showing the playlist creation and song added to it. Below is a screenshot showing where the supposed playlist should be located by the directory is empty.

That's exactly how it looks for me too. No XML file is created when creating a new one.
Directory is empty. I will submit a log if this is not enough from @braigo64.

just the answer to the question. It is the XML files (playlists) that were created with emby. In the meantime
I don't care if the old ones work. It would be nice if I could create new ones :)

The 4.8 server doesn’t create xml anymore for playlists. It now creates m3u8 playlists.

okay m3u8... in the folder userplaylists?

image.thumb.png.55c5d70930703577f9932cda5523f1f3.png

the folder is empty although I create a list. The list also disappears again after a media scan, as explained at the beginning.

Doesn't matter what file types the playlists are now. It's not creating anything.

OK please create a new one, and then attach the emby server log:

Thanks.

To be clear, are you saying old XML playlists are converted to M3U?

Yes, when you first upgrade from 4.7 to 4.8.

Still can't reproduce creating a playlist via the UI and doing a scan and it disappears unless there is a platform variable here.

Per OP log above the server clearly creates and see the playlist.

It's never removed. The file literally never gets created in the directory. Here is a full log today of creating a new playlist called "Work Mix 2"

Old playlists still don't contain any of their content. New playlists will not get created. If this isn't fixed I'm moving to Plex. Tired of these kinds of issues always happening.

Sorry I don't follow.  Clearly the playlist is created.  Not the content is a different story.

Emby may think the playlist is created, but the file does not exist. Only the old playlist directories remain in the other directory.

What did you do here? Is this creating a playlist, or refreshing the metadata on an existing one?

I went to an artist, selected add to playlist from the context menu, no playlists were listed in the menu to add to so I clicked on create playlist. I created a new playlist called Work Mix 2. A little toast notification said x number of songs were added to the playlist. Going to the playlist library did not show the newly created playlist. Going to the path on the server showed that there was no m3u file in the directory either.
