wordlover 124
Now we're at the Emby-makes-no-sense stage. @Lukebased on your comments above I changed all the subfolder names to end in CDX. Then I did rescan files and rescan metadata (replacing images). Emby found and considers these newly named directories as new files/info - see "Latest Music" - but image still not correct. See below. Why isn't this working? 4 hours ago, Luke said: If you want it to be multi-disc, then the folders need to be named appropriately as such.
Happy2Play 9025
Not sure as this worked for me. But have not tested your naming. Did anything get create in metadata/musicalbums?
Luke 38342
You probably need to use the image editor to delete the unwanted image.
Luke 38342
5 hours ago, wordlover said: This is the guidance from earlier, which is what is now confusing and frustrating: "The tags will override the folders, so you could have them in two folders, but if the album name is the same they will be shown together. In that situation, the folder name won't help sort the disks, only the "disc" tag. If you have that, you are good to go in this respect." and below: https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/94240-music-multi-cd-albums-naming-wiki-not-clear/&do=findComment&comment=975142 The folders have nothing to do with the grouping. that is all tag driven as I have been saying. The folder naming only matters when trying to figure out what the album folder is for a track, whether it's the same folder, or if it needs to go up a level in the case of multi-disc. And this only matters when you use the folder structure option, so at this point you're in advanced user territory. For a more hands off approach, consider setting your folder structure option back to the default of Other, forget about having to fuss with image files in folders, and just let everything be tag driven. Then when you want to override the occasional image, just do it in the web interface rather than messing with the folders.
wordlover 124
There IS no unwanted image. And my music library IS perfectly structured. Please answer my question: what are permissible naming conventions for subdirectories in a multi-disc set of albums, which seems to be what Emby isn't handling properly or intuitively? Luke 38342
Hi, there are examples in Music Naming

If they are different albums then there is nothing currently permissible for that if you are using the artist\album\track convention. This is because the parent of the album folder is assumed to be the artist folder, not a multi-album grouping folder. If they are different disc numbers of the same album, then having the folder names should end with Disc X, Disk X or CD X.

Yes, that is what is so confusing. These are all discs within the same album, and even after changing the lowest level folder names to end in CDX, CDY, etc., Emby is not using the cover.jpg image in the folder one level up. Are you sure Emby is in fact coded to allow "[Albumname] - CDX" for individual folders?

You may want to give that a try.
wordlover 124
I did test it, and folders named ONLY "CD1", "CD2" etc. work while "[Albumname] - CDX" or another variant that ENDS with "CD1" etc. do not. The reason this is a problem is because it is safer, clearer and more convenient to include folders in a library if they include some identifying information in their name, exactly the same way that NBA itself looks to single, top level folder naming for individual albums. Since even you thought this was how Emby was coded but apparently is not, can you make that change happen for all of these good reasons?
Luke 38342
I was mistaken, sorry, but now that we know what the answer is, hopefully that helps going forward. Supporting more conventions is always possible for future updates. Thanks.

Thanks - I hope its possible to modify the code pretty easily so Emby recognizes RIGHT$(folder)="*CDx" as it currently recognizes (folder)="CDx"...
